Los libros de la frontera: "The books of the border" https://padlet.com/sarahbethwoods/bwr9vfunaditm8mt/wish/1134202308 My final project was a house, symbolizing the precarious sense of home that Mexican immigrants and those of Mexican-American descent often experience as they journey across the border of the US. The roof is an open book, symbolizing simultaneously the power found in reading alongside the uncertainty of life on the border. It is open to my favorite paragraphs of Gloria Anzaldúa's influential essay on linguistics and racial identity, "How to Tame a Wild Tongue." For the base of the house, I used modge-podge to create wall-collages of famous Chicano authors and their works, symbolizing the formation of linguistic power in the voices of those who used their platform to create cultural identity.
