Even before the Meinkampf in the 1920s he always planned to betray the alliance between the Soviet and Germany. The Germans aimed to creat living space in Eastern Europe to grab their useful resources, also Hitler hated communism.

The operation Barbarossa begins in June 22nd 1941. At first it seemed like it was going to be another major German victory, however it became Germans first lose in ground battle in the WW2. More than 3million men was involved to destroy Soviet which was the largest amount of men involved in a single warfare at the point in the history. At first the Germans successfully captured or killed about 3 million soldiers from the Soviet. However the amount of troops that were estemaited for Soviet to have was 3 million. Germany underestimated the amount of soldiers Soviet had. By the time of Christmas, Germans realize that they had to stop the attack for Moscow to reinforce their tactics and their supplies. This was because of the geographical advantages Russia held. The time given to Russia contributed on the victory for the Russians because they were able to put men around Moscow and make tanks such as T-34. At this point the Germans decide to stop the offense against Russia. The Germans had invaded significant amount of land which included places like Kyiv in Ukraine. However in December 6th Russia starts to counter attack by their supplies they were able to maintain in the time given for Russia. The Russian men were more capable in the extreme weather which led to the retreat of the Germans which ended the operation of Barbarossa.
