         <description><![CDATA[<div>The emperor was in charge but he was mainly just a figurehead. The actual ruler was the Shogun the supreme ruler of the military. After him came the daimyo, powerful land owning samurai. Samurai warriors came next and then peasants and artisans. At the very bottom were the merchants but once Japans economy started growing they became more important.</div>]]></description>
