Feminism-

"In the short story, 'Franny', the protagonist asserts her discontentedness with her significant others' behavior. She attempts to be submissive, but runs out of patience with his expectations. Eventually, she breaks away from her stereotypical mold and leaves his toxic behavior in order to resurrect herself into the image of who she wants to be, rather than being dominated and commandeered by her controlling other half. By conceding to her better intuition, Franny comes to terms with her womanhood and becomes cognizant of the challenges she may face in the future as a result of her actions.

Psychological Lens
"In the short story, 'Where are You Going, Where Have You Been?', Joyce Carol Oates depicts a daughter who feels ostracized and unwanted by her resentful mother and indifferent father; her lonely feelings lead her to look for admiration and affection in unhealthy ways. This familial conflict ultimately demonstrates how pushing one's self towards adulthood can often lead to regret and an untimely loss of innocence. "

Psychoanalytical Lens!!
In the story Franny and Zooey we see that Franny is starting to psychologically breakdown during lunch. Franny is mentally and emotionally drained and her eyes are now clear to who she is dating. Spending more time with him is only building her stress levels and allowing for more internal conflict to be released externally.

Religious Lens
In Charles Dickens novel "Oliver Twist", Dickens sacrifices Nancy for Oliver which alludes to the biblical story of Jesus being sacrificed for mankind. Dickens includes this allusion to have the readers sympathize Nancy and draw attention to the injustice of the social classes. Nancy can also be seen through the historical and feminist or gender lens.

Marxist Lens
In Charles Dicken's novel "Oliver Twist," Dickens depicts the unfair social system in regards to the poor experiencing a cycle of poverty that they are trapped inside of. Dickens calls attention to this idea by subjecting the poor to maltreatment and harsh judgement by the upper class. For example, Oliver Twist is deemed as a criminal because of his lower class status and throughout the beginning of the novel is told that he will be hung.

Historical Lens
"The Crucible", a play by Arthur Miller, depicts a criticism of two historical time periods to prove the meaning of the work as a whole, that fear and paranoia lead to destruction and mayhem, and reason and logic are suspended in times of uncertainty. The chaos of Salem at the time of the witch trials, as depicted by Miller, directly reflects the panic present in the United States throughout the Cold War and the hunt for communists that occurred in the 1950's.
