He is feeling tired of all these people that are trying to kill him and his Ka-tet (A group of gunslingers). He has faced so many enemies that have tried to kill him and he has gotten skilled with dispatching (and angering) his opponents. Even though he was the last gunslinger for a long time, he isn't indestructible. But since I read these books right after each other I was already immersed in this fantasy world. I agree with the writer of this review in thinking of this as Kings homage to Romeo and Juliet. It does have a lot of romance with Susan and Roland. It is a window into Roland's life when he was younger and it does show why he his as tough and as "gritty" as he is now.
