We are a very large school spread out over 2 campuses that are 3 miles apart. Even though we are one school, it is a challenge managing a program of sooooo many teachers (7-8 per grade level K-5 and soooooo many students 1100+). This is my second year in this role - but served as an IB teacher for 12 years prior and have been part of two evaluation visits. The next one is fall 2020 - this is our self-evaluation year. I've worked here since 2014, a year or so after the school was built. We were authorized July 2016, so I've gone through the verification process. We are gearing up for our re-authorization in 2021, having postponed the process for 6 months so we could get better up-and-running with the enhanced PYP. One challenge I think we face is that we are a stand-alone PYP public elementary school, with no magnet or charter association, in a diverse district in a "small" state. I would love to have nearer colleagues to work through issues with, and share notes. But the GIBS organization (Guild of IB Schools Northeast) has been and continues to be helpful. Another challenge is that Portland ME is a "sanctuary" city and our school is one of the first-stop schools for our newcomer immigrant students. We have about 1/3 EL students, mostly from central Africa at this point, and a pretty active in-and-out process for our newest families. As PYP Coordinator, I thoroughly love walking alongside teachers on two diverse campuses. I am beginning my second year in the role of PYP Coordinator for two schools in Carrollton - Farmers Branch ISD in Texas. I have taught 20 years total and 12 years teaching PYP. Most of those years were spent teaching in PYP schools abroad in international schools. (Our family lived overseas for 17 years. My children attended IB schools and graduated with their IB Diplomas.) Since my experience and training was mainly in the Asia-Pacific Region, I am still learning about implementing the PYP Programme in American public schools. I have been through one initial verification, two evaluations and one reevaluation as a PYP teacher. One of my campuses is scheduled to go through the reevaluation process in December 2020, so this next year we will begin our self-study. Several challenges for me are:
(1) Being a coordinator for two extremely diverse campuses - Affluent and Title 1
(2) Implementing the programme with fidelity. Not just "do" IB, but "be" IB.
(3) Getting all stakeholders on board.

This will be my first year as the IB coordinator for our campus. I do have 4 years of PYP experience as a 3rd grade teacher and went through one reauthorization visit during that time. I'm excited to take on this new responsibility this year, but we are facing some challenges as well. We are in a reauthorization year so I need to prepare for that visit right away. Hi everyone! This is my 5th year as an IB teacher, and first year as the IB Coordinator for our school. I am so excited to support our awesome staff this year. I am so lucky that we had an IB evaluation LAST year, so I don't have to worry about that quite yet, but I have been through it. Whew! I think my biggest challenge this year as a coordinator is to organize collaboration among our staff to reduce any amount of stress on teachers. We went from a F/T coordinator to P/T last year, so it's been tough for teachers to take over maintenance items for IB. See you in Austin!

Hi all! This will be my first year as PYP Coordinator for our preschool campus and I have been working with the PYP for the last four years as a teacher. My school will have our first evaluation visit this coming spring, so preparing the self study and getting ready for the visit will be a main focus of mine alongside our PYP Coordinator for the Elementary School and Director of Curriculum/MYP Coordinator.
I am taking over the role for a former colleague who had a different style of doing things, so one of my priorities is to find a leadership approach that involves all of our teachers. This school year we have a great mix of a lot of new incoming hires, teachers that have been with the school for a few years, and seasoned veterans; I will be working hard to support everyone's needs and get them excited about teaching PYP!

Thinking about how my IB Coordinator did this work is really helpful.
Extend - Loved hearing the great connection between IB and Lucy Calkins. I have felt there is such a strong connection but I am thrilled to hear this from other coordinators and hopefully bring this back to my school.
Challenge - So tough to wrap my head around everything. I feel like I am drowning in all of this language that I don't have a strong grasp on.

I realize I understand a lot and also have parts of the Coordinator responsibilities that I need to focus on more fully. It is incredibly helpful to have this roomful of experts and colleagues--I am so grateful to be here! And thank you to everyone who posts their own great ideas and docs to share.
EXTENDED: I've got ideas on early PD, bringing for example the Lifelong Learners standards to my teachers to dive into the "agency" aspect of our work. The insights and help around Manage Bac etc is specifically helpful

Today I was pleased that I picked up new ideas for professional development with staff. Our group has shared many practices that they use and I will some of these amazing activities. I have also a new perspective on the role of the coordinator and sharing the load with the administration.
Challenge- What love to discuss how other schools hold collaborative meetings and their POI's. I also have a few questions about the exhibition.

I AM EXCITED ABOUT the connections with my fellow Coordinators, to continue to help each other and problem solve going forward in a supportive team. This is so precious!
I AM WORRIED about the amount of Enhanced PYP learning I need to explore with my staff and the limited/over-committed times we can meet, consider/read and discuss this important work, in BATTLE with all the other priorities the teachers and my principal have that are not IB-focused. This sounds pathetic, but IB is more important to me than to anyone else at the school, and I have to keep up the focus and fight.
THE STRATEGY I am taking back--multiple ideas, but I do want to focus on Agency, Action and Assessment, as our primary consideration. I also want to formulate a PYP team, even though my principal is not super supportive of that as a school team. And I want to put the Secret Society into my speed-dial/rapid response to keep the connections going!!

W--I'm worried about buy-in from my new admin and how I'm going to have time to fulfill the role I'm charged with, especially if they don't understand or are not invested in IB.
