Share a photo you made during our symmetry challenge. Tell us a little bit about it such as what you notice about it, the techniques you used to make it, and why you like it. Then, spend some time offering critiques to the images of three of your classmates.

I liked the symmetry of this photo as well as the gleam coming off the metal.

This image was taken on a Cannon R50 with a 24-70mm f2.8 lens at 70 mm with an ISO of 800, a shutter speed of 1/30 and an aperture of f4.0.

I took the original photo and then cropped it in during the editing processes. My major edits were upping the shadows, whites, and blacks, I also took away all of the highlights and upped the contrast slightly. Additionally I made many other small edits. I liked this photo because of the dark contrasted with the hard metal.

I took this photo in the library by putting four books back to back. I took this with my Phone camera. I like how this photo shows symmetry, and how it makes the books look with the unique position they are in. I took this from a high angle above the books so that the spread of the pages can be seen. In editing, I turned the Brilliance and Contrast up so that every page can be seen and so that the subject pops. I also turned the vibrance and warmth up so that the colors pop, especially the blue and yellows.

I took this photo with my phone, focusing my subject as the houses outside my window. I like this photo because of how the window frames the image and the symmetry. The houses are not exactly the same, but I still think symmetry comes across with the composition. To add to the dark, wintery mood, I turned down exposure and actually used a vignette to add more contrast with the negative space.

The leading lines in this photo are particularly notable because they lead your eyes straight to the center line.

The first thing I noticed was how everything lines up around the person standing in the center, making them the main focus. Then I thought the background could be a little brighter to make the person stand out more.

What I like about this photo is how balanced it feels – it’s calm and kind of peaceful.

If I could change something, I’d try taking it when the light is different, maybe earlier or later in the day, to add a little more contrast and reflection on the water.

I tried my best to keep the middle gap inline with the middle line on the grid, it is a little off though which bothers me but overall i like it.
