Two motifs found in Piecing Me Together are the blending of cultures and police brutality. The reoccurring collages are trying to convey a more meaningful, deeper meaning, which is the blending of cultures. Collages are made with the blending of different materials and pictures. Jade is attending a school that is mainly filled with white people. Jade figures out that she loves to create collages and she also makes best friends with a white girl named Sam. This shows the blending of cultures.
The other motif found in the novel is one that addresses police brutality. Natasha Ramsey is a symbol for those who have fallen to police brutality such as Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown. Natasha Ramsey is a symbol of police brutality because she was abused by a police officer and she didn't live far away from Jade. Ramsey shows the audience that the police brutality issue is closer and more real than we realize. She is a symbol that says "Hey! the issue is right in front of us! What are we going to do about it?"
The image below shows the two victims of police brutality and racism. The imagine coincides with the motifs because it shows the two victims that could have been saved if police brutality and racism was not such a huge issue in the United States. Trayvon Martin was killed by Zimmerman and it was a huge injustice on how the trial played out. Micheal Brown was an unarmed man who was killed by a police officer.

Most Important List:
1) Art
2) Woman to Woman
3) Natasha Ramsey
4) Trayvon Martin
5) Money
6) Spanish
7) Education
8) Family
9) Love
10) Friendship
I chose the following list as my list because i think all of these things contribute to the moral of the story, which is "Love Wins." Art, woman to woman, Natasha Ramsey, Trayvon Martin, and friendship all brought the community together and made the race issue publicly identified and made everyone realize that the community needed change. Money, Spanish, Education, family, and love all brought Jade to a realization that she needed to one day provide for her family. The moral of the story, "love wins" coincides with this list because both lists show jade and the audience that without love, nothing can be accomplished.
The following picture relates to my list because it is a collage that shows the African American community uniting. Not only does this show and tell the audience that African Americans can unite, but the African American community can unite through art, which is what Jade is trying to do. Jade is trying to show the community that through art, love and a united community can exist.
