In the past, it was important to know how to read , write and even count. All these together meant to have "power" over the rest of the people, a gap between people, the rich and the poor. Education was a privilege for few and wealthy people. With time, literacy evolved according to the needs of the reality people were living through time.

The digital gap is the division between those having and not having the skills needed to access to information although they have access to technology.
As a consequence, it can be identified two types of users, passive and active, that is to say, consumer and prosumer. For this reason, it can be concluded that the use given to techonology divides the population, the world.

In the research article, Area and Pessoa describe "Web 2.0 as a universal (virtual) library" with overloading of genuine and fake information. As a result, this generates "infoxication" because the amount of information makes it difficult to the user to treat and understand the new information and to make better decisions on what to use or discard.
