Something new I learned about IM:
I learned that getting ready to teach an IM lesson means really understanding each part of it—what it’s meant to do and how students might think or get confused. It’s more than just reading the lesson—it’s thinking it through ahead of time.

What I’m excited about for 2025–2026:
I’m excited that IM gives students more chances to talk about their thinking and solve real problems. I think it will help them understand math better and enjoy it more.

What I’m nervous about:
I’m a little nervous about keeping everyone focused during independent struggle work and making sure all students understand the math. It’s a big change from how some kids are used to learning.

Stagno-The order of how we 'teach' the components is in a different order. I am nervous that it will be hard to adjust to letting the students come to their own conclusions without explicit teaching. I do like the little activity we got a chance to practice with. I am also nervous about the preparation time that it will take to prepare the materials needed for each lesson.

This IM PD reiterated some of the concepts Ive learned in my own IM training. We looked at a sample warm up, activity and cool down as part of and IM lesson. I'm excited about starting a program that allows students more opportunity to become engaged, while teachers take a more passive role in the classroom. The concern is starting a new program and having all materials ready for the start of September.

Students get the opportunity to explore independently and as groups before teachers provide instruction and guidance.

Zuleika Hilario

One key element for planning instruction that I learned is the Unit video for teachers. It provides an overview of the objectives of the lesson. Some of the benefits for teachers is also structured lesson plans with ongoing assessment and feedback tools. It emphasis on student's collaboration while learning.

MA Jordan

I think the website the DOE has designed is much more informative and easy to use than the Kendall Hunt website. I think that the lesson narratives and videos will be helpful with planning. I was glad to hear that there is a Chat/AI site specifically for IM math that will generate practice problems. I'm looking forward to getting started with IM in September. I think the warm ups will create engagement and access for many of my students with IEP's.

Something new I learned about IM is that it gives students a lot of opportunity to have more discussions about their critical thinking and problem solving with each other. Students are going to learn how to use more vocabulary in their discussions as well.

An aspect that I am excited for are the different hands on activities that students can complete in small groups/ stations. Something that makes me nervous is the less modeling of teachers during the “I do” part of the lesson.

I learned that there are a lot of resources available for us to use to help us with our lessons. One thing I am nervous about is trying to facilitate that discussion. Would I be able to ask the right questions? Will they be able to understand the question and respond to it? I am also nervous when it comes to planning because I have to anticipate the student's responses.
