-The subcutaneous layer is the same organ as the hypodermis. It's just that the hypodermis isn't the scientific name for that organ. The real precise and anatomically accurate term is subcutaneous layer.
-stores most of the body's fat
- the hypodermis lies beneath the epidermis and the dermis
-the subcutaneous layer provides insulation to help maintain our body's temperature when we are in cold environments.
-helps protect our muscles and bones when we cause damage towards our body (such as falling)
-attaches the skin to deeper tissues and organs.
-the hypodermis contains connective tissue which contains adipocytes.
-It consists primarily of areolar connective tissue and adipose tissue.
-Blood vessels and nerves within the subcutaneous tissue give off branches that supply the dermis
-is technically not skin
-The subcutaneous layer is also named the hypodermis because hypo means lower. So it means lies below the dermis, which is what the subcutaneous layer is.
-is made up of mainly tons and tons of fat
-the fat in this area helps absorb shock, like injuries some more effective than others
-it helps insulate our tissue
-what lies below the hypodermis is muscles even bones

The dermis is the deep layer of the skin found inside the epidermis. The dermis is made of irregular tissue along with nervous tissue, blood, and blood vessels. The dermis contains a network of nerve fibers and very small blood vessels called capillaries. Nutrients and oxygen in the blood pass from the capillaries into cells. On the second layer of skin the dermis contains a various connective tissue.. As connective tissue, it contains fibroblasts and macrophages within a gelatinous matrix containing collagen, elastic, and reticular fibers.
