It's just that the hypodermis isn't the scientific name for that organ. The real precise and anatomically accurate term is subcutaneous layer.
-stores most of the body's fat
- the hypodermis lies beneath the epidermis and the dermis
-the subcutaneous layer provides insulation to help maintain our body's temperature when we are in cold environments.
-helps protect our muscles and bones when we cause damage towards our body (such as falling)
-attaches the skin to deeper tissues and organs.
-the hypodermis contains connective tissue which contains adipocytes.
-It consists primarily of areolar connective tissue and adipose tissue.
-Blood vessels and nerves within the subcutaneous tissue give off branches that supply the dermis
