Definition: Behaviorists believe that observing the Behavior is the key to psychology. Namely, the functioning of the mind is not analyzed, but human behavior is observed. 

Characteristic: 
  • The probability of a response increases or decreases by that happens immediately after it, this being a positive or negative reinforcer happens, depending on whether it increases or decrease that probability.
  • For Behaviorism, Psychology must be a science eminently practical, without any introspection, and with the objective of predicting and controlling the conduct.
  • Watson argued that the center of attention should be in the overt and observable behavior and that the behavior can be understood by examining the relationship between stimuli and responses.

Definition: For humanistic psychologists, man is psychologically different from animals. It is naturally good and something in itself. Each man, in addition to the specific nature, common to that of other men, he possesses an individual nature, which is unique and unrepeatable. 

Characteristics: 
  • Humanism emphasizes the possibility of man to rediscover his own personality and your personal authenticity. 
  • Rogers focuses on the plot of the relationship therapy (psychologist-client) and part of the idea that the individual has within himself sufficient resources that can be mobilized, provided that the psychologist manages to create a climate appropriate.
