Schools develop international partnerships with overseas schools, encourage international students and language courses. Individual schools have more profound arrangements and might  thoroughly investigate other countries and cultures. In Biology? I am not sure as I am not teaching it at this stage.

I attempt to build awareness of cultures other than that of USA ( with all due respect) that seems to overtake that of the other. 
I bring in to Biology the study of global scientists and progress made in different fields- we investigate the contributions made from cultures and genders to the world of science.

I have encouraged students to engage with others in sharing discussions of issues and sharing their worlds through just writing.
There are programmes such as Big History that brings an understanding of our world by placing us all in the same boat- the Universe and Earth.
