This is a collection of different genres to represent the story of Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare. The five genres will all relate back to the common theme being: the strong feelings of true love can lead to fierce acts of determination and can end in tragic consequences. Each genre I have chosen all represent their own smaller idea and perspectives, but will ultimately support the bigger idea. Throughout each genre, there will be different examples to elaborate on and will be used to connect to the main idea and show the overall significance to the rest of the story. (PLEASE READ THE GENRES FROM LEFT TO RIGHT SO IT MAKES SENSE!)

Playlist for Romeo

The next genre is a playlist for Romeo. This playlist consists of 10 different songs and represents the deep feelings Romeo and Juliet felt for each other. I made this in the perspective of Romeo's feelings of affection for Juliet. He would listen to this playlist as he journeyed his way to Juliet's castle to talk to her. It starts with a few songs that relate to the idea of 'love at first sight' to represent Romeo falling in love after first seeing Juliet. There are some other songs that talk about the idea of not being able to do anything without another person. This is how Romeo felt after getting to know Juliet. He had realized there was a special bond between them and he didn't want to take that away from the both of them. Romeo felt very strongly for Juliet and never wanted to leave her side. We can see his strong emotions for her in Act 5 Scene 3 where Romeo says, "Thou desperate pilot, now at once run on the dashing rocks thy seasick weary bark! Here's to my love! O true apothecary! The drugs are quick. Thus with a kiss I die". As Romeo thought Juliet had died in the tomb, he didn't want to stay alive when she was "dead", so he decided to take his life so that they could be together spiritually. Based on this, Romeo didn't care about what consequences could happen between them because they were both determined to be with each other by the end. Although the consequences were brutal in the end of the story, they still loved each other greatly, and would do anything in the world to stay by one another's side even when that meant dying for each other.

Book Review: R+J

The first genre is my book/play review of 'Romeo and Juliet' by William Shakespeare. Romeo and Juliet is a special tale that starts as a love story and ends in a tragedy. There are two families- The Montagues' (Romeo's side of the family) and the Capulets' (Juliet's side of the family). Both families do not get along and there has always been a history of family feuding between the two groups. Romeo and Juliet are the two main characters in this story who quickly fall in love with each other at first sight. Of course this is a conflict because the two families don't get along well and they wouldn't want their kids to marry each other because there would never be any peace. There are also other love interests throughout this story which makes it difficult for both Romeo and Juliet to be together. This tale is full of love, determination, desperation, and many ups and downs. Ultimately, it's a story that will make you want to read to the end just so you can see what really happens and how it will end for the the main characters. It will make you wonder "Did they get what they wanted?" and "Is this a tragedy or fate?". A part in the play that really made me question the ending and whether or not Romeo and Juliet would end up together is in Act 4 Scene 2 when Juliet goes to her father to apologize from earlier about not wanting to marry Paris, a different love interest. Capulet then responds to this and says, "Send for the County. Go tell him of this. I'll have this knot knit up tomorrow morning". This part was conflicting for Juliet because the wedding was being moved up a day, which was not at all apart of her plan to run away with her true love, Romeo. This made me really question if Juliet and Romeo was going to actually end up together, or if their plan would be stopped and have an unhappy ending. Throughout this play, there are all sorts of conflicts, fights, and risky decisions that certain characters had to make. Ultimately, while reading this book, you will realize that true love is worth a lot and will lead to fierce acts of bravery, determination, and commitment, and sometimes even fatal consequences.

Wanted Poster

The next genre is a 'Wanted Poster" of Romeo for the murder of Tybalt, which is an example of showing how Romeo's deep feelings of pride and love for Juliet can lead to doing crazy things that can come with certain consequences. Throughout the story, the Montagues' and Capulets' never got along, so there was never peace between them. Romeo was so in love with Juliet that he couldn't help not being with her. He wanted to maintain peace between the families but during a fight with him and Tybalt, things went too far which resulted in the death of Tybalt later on in an act of self-defense. After Lady Capulet found out that Romeo had killed Tybalt, emotions were sprawled shown in Act 3 Scene 1 where she says, "I beg for justice, which thou, Prince, must give. Romeo slew Tybalt; Romeo must not live". After this, she proclaimed she wanted him to be exiled or executed. The conflict of this situation is that Lady Capulet refused to see the other perspective of what really happened because there was bias since Tybalt was her relative. She didn't believe that Romeo only slew Tybalt because he was being threatened and had almost died himself. Juliet's family had ordered to execute Romeo for his actions but Romeo was determined to not let that happen so he could still be able to end up with Juliet. This represents the main theme because it shows Romeo's act of bravery and facing the possibility of execution. He was willing to do anything to be with Juliet, even through bloody battles, which shows the power of his feelings of his true love for her.

Text Messages between Juliet and Friar Laurence

The last genre is a text chain between Friar Laurence and Juliet. This conversation explains the details behind the Friar's secret plan for Juliet so she and Romeo can be happy together at last. The goal was to interrupt the wedding of Paris and Juliet by faking Juliet’s death. She would then be asleep for two days to make it more realistic, and would be placed in her family’s tomb. Then, Romeo would go to the tomb two days later and after she would awaken, the two of them would escape to Mantua together. When Friar Laurence gives Juliet the potion in Act 4 Scene 3, she is hesitant at first, but then remembers why she's drinking it in the first place. Juliet says, "I see my cousin's ghost seeking out Romeo, that did spit his body upon a rapier's point. Stay, Tybalt, stay! Romeo, I come! This do I drink to thee". This goes to show that the idea of being with Romeo forever was very important and was a priority for Juliet. She was even willing to fake her own death just so she could be with Romeo because she couldn't bear to be without him. The love between the two characters reflect the main theme because it is so strong that it caused them to follow an extreme plan that required a lot of commitment in order to get what they each wanted.

For this genre, I chose a Pinterest board. This collage of pictures represents a greater depth in the story of Romeo and Juliet. In the story, Romeo and Juliet's love for each other is showcased through their acts of determination and commitment to be able to live a happy ending and be with each other. Throughout the acts, there are many fights, conflicts, heartbreaks, and emotion that occur creating an overall problem between the two main families- the Capulets and the Montagues. We can see this in Act 3 Scene 1 where Romeo and Tybalt are fighting. Tybalt had insulted Romeo and was being very violent towards him. While doing so, Tybalt accidentally stabbed and killed Mercutio (Romeo's friend), and Romeo wasn't going to stand for that. He says, "Now, Tybalt, take the "villain" back again that late thou gavest me, for Mercutio's soul...Either thou or I, or both, must go with him". During this fight, Romeo meant no harm and just wanted to keep peace between the families, but Tybalt took it too far, and Romeo killed Tybalt out of self-defense for the sake of love and peace between the families. This can be related back to the main idea and theme of finding true love can lead to serious acts of bravery and determination. Romeo was willing to do whatever it took to get back to Juliet, even with all of the bloody battles and withdraws that pushed him aside. In the end of the story, Romeo and Juliet both die for each other because they felt they couldn't live their life without one another. This goes to show the significance and theme of the story that love is such a strong feeling and can lead to outrageous acts of bravery and determination and can end in upsetting and tragic consequences.
