Did you know according to the ASPCA 8-12 million animals are put into shelters each year? That is 8-12 million dogs and cats without a place to call home, or a warm bed, or a family to love. I am urging you to consider adoption when it comes to your next pet and help save a life. I adopted my dog 3 years ago, before I got him he was in a home where he was mistreated often and developed a mistrust of people and other animals before long his owners dropped him off at a shelter and left. He did not take to the shelter well. The owners of the shelter knew he wouldn't last long and euthanization would have to be an option. When the shelter called and told me about him I knew I needed to be the one who saved him and 3 years later it was one of the best decisions of my life. He has come a long way and has learned to trust people again and allow others into his life. He loves unconditionally and knows now he is home and safe.
Now I want you to think about that number again, 8-12 million. How many of those animals do you believe end up in a forever home? According to the humane society of America on a good year, they are lucky if half of those pets get adopted. That’s nearly 4-6 million animals who were in my dog’s very situation. But many of those animals do not get the happy ending they deserve. While adoption rates are going up in America we need to do better, this is again why I urge you, if you or someone you know is thinking about bringing in a new member of the family adopt and don't shop.

Switching Academies- More Enjoyable School Experience

So far my high school experience has been super stressful because of my academy. I am in the health science and medicine academy and I have known from the start of freshman year I was not going to pursue a career in this field. When choosing an academy I was not given many choices as my mom thought it would be best for me to pursue this in high school. Now, halfway through my sophomore year, I have realized this academy is absolutely not for me. I have spent many hours in tears because of the assignments that have needed to be completed. I wish to have a good high school experience and I believe that could happen if switching my academy was possible. As many as 50 to 75% of all undergraduate students change majors at least one time before earning a degree. I think that as a new freshman it is hard for many to choose what they will be studying for four years. Even college students change their minds and are able to change their majors. This is why I believe I should be able to change my academy.

Social Distancing

Covid-19 affects many people in different ways. Social distancing is one of the many things you can do to be vigilant. Social distancing, washing your hands, double masking, or just wearing a mask are some of the things recommended by the CDC. Covid-19 is something to be taken very seriously as you never know who it might affect. You also don’t know the spectrum of symptoms someone can experience. You must take precautions to keep your loved ones safe, which includes social distancing. Social distancing can be one of the hardest things to do out of the recommended precautions. Sometimes there are instances where you are unable to distance yourself away from other people, which are understandable. But, ANY other time that you are able to social distancing I urge you to do it. You might feel as though social distancing does not matter but it does. Transmission of air droplets is one of the main ways covid-19 spreads and the masks are not always protective. It is better to take every single precaution you can to keep everyone around you safe. People who are at higher risk including the elderly and grandparents can have a very hard time with covid-19. If you have a loved one at home and want to protect them it is best to take precautions. If you are exposed to covid-19 it is better to know you tried your hardest to protect yourself and everyone from this virus. It can be hard to recover and even take a long time to recover. Safety is important and social distancing is apart of that.

Everyone has their “bubbles” which basically refers to their household or people you see on a daily basis. These are people in your bubbles, to not social distance is to break your bubble. Transmission can happen with surfaces and regular face-to-face contact. Very important to do things efficiently to be safe. Some facts supporting why you should social distance are that some people can unknowingly spread the virus, some people do not feel symptoms after their exposure, which was stated by the CDC. According to Medical life science news, “The team found that the control policies implemented in New York City reduced the number of infections by 72 percent” The control policies included school closure, social distancing for the entire population and 65 years old and up. Social distancing is a safety precaution and one you are able to follow. Try keeping yourself and others safe by lessening the risk of exposure.

Title: NO HOMEWORK!!

Did you know that the average high school kid is spending at least 3 hours on homework everyday. It does not make sense that kids have to spend the majority of their day on school. Teachers say the test is to see if you understand. So what's the point of homework? It should be up to the students if they want to take home extra work and the only work that should be done at home is the work they did not finish in class. Then teachers get mad when students don't turn it in.

I feel schools understand the school is the most kids happy place. Yall should have some consideration of what may be going on. Some kids may gotta work to feed their families and homework is the last thing on their mind. It's just so many scenarios that I can name but that's going too deep. It's just ideas that have to run through the school brain and what is homework doing for the students because the teachers said the test is to make sure the student understands. Having homework is really pointless in my point of view and pretty sure it can take some stress off of most kids. Also we are spending weekends doing work. Are we even allowed to enjoy ourselves anymore? Not having homework is something to consider just saying.

Homework is work that is assigned to students by their teachers to be completed outside the class. According to teachers this helps students get more practice and a better understanding of what they have learned. I also agree that it does give us that extra practice and gives us a better understanding. But does it really help students? “As a result, homework becomes an uphill battle, which they feel they will never win despite putting an effort. When they continue to find homework difficult, they consider other ways of working on it, such as cheating.”(Kenny Gill). The most common thing for students to do when doing homework is cheat They wouldn't learn anything if they cheat.

We have other classes in which we also have a lot of homework for. We focus on homework from other classes that we forget about the other ones we have to do. This leads up to homework being late or missing. Homework affects your grade by bringing it down. It is a struggle to get it all in on time and we stress ourselves out. When I get homework at times I tend to get stressed out a lot because there are all these due dates and little time to do everything. All this stress could atart to build up and start to cause mental health problems. “Also, they experience depression and anxiety. The pressure to attend all classes, finish the much homework, as well as have time to make social connections cripples them.”(Knny Gill). We all have our own lives outside of school. Some students do not have time to do homework due to them being busy with a job or babysitting or something else important. It would be better to do all the work at school rather than after school.

Waking up early around 8 a.m and having to go to school for 7 hours every 5 days a week is a lot for kids already to handle. Then, we go home and have to do work for all of our classes. Maintaining good grades and trying to stay focus is already hard enough when you don’t know what’s going on. We get piled up with homework in class and there’s a due date and when it’s not done on time, it ends up being late and we lose points and our grade will go down every time it’s late. I feel like the classwork that we already do in class should just be counted for homework and classwork together and then if we miss one assignment or forget to do it, we end up missing many assignments and fall behind in class and our grades start dropping. According to teachers, they say that having homework is extra help for the people that need it. I agree with that, but I just think that they should assign it to people that need the extra help.

Some kids have jobs, and by the time they get off of work, they forget they had homework, or get too tired and just wanna go to sleep. Another thing is kids sleeping schedule, the average time for a human to sleep is 8 hours and most kids probably don’t even get that. They are too busy staying up all night trying to figure out how to do the homework they were assigned by their teachers. I try my best trying to maintain good grades and turn in my work on time, but sometimes I get lazy and just don’t feel like doing it. I feel as if there is no point in having homework after school if we already do work in school, it doesn’t make sense to me. My point I’m trying to get across is that we should not have work after school, and they shouldn’t pile us with work for every class.

Why Can’t I stay out longer Well mom in parentsamurai.com it says kids my age should stay out longer than how long I stay out, and I should stay out for how old I am. I also feel like I shouldn’t get grounded because y'all my parents and y’all love me and I want to be outside with my friends more because when were older it won’t be the same we’ll only get a few chances to go out with all of us. And I promise this the last time this will happen. but if you do extend it I promise I’ll get home on time and I won’t get home 30 minutes late.

Social Distancing Safely Hello guys! I know we are all over this pandemic, being cooped up inside for months on and off in a lockdown took a lot out of all of us, we were all feeling a bit lonely and stir crazy, and now that things are opening and we can go out and see each other, we just wanna be close to someone, I understand, but it is not safe. We may be safer, less at risk and able to recover easily, but what about your parents, and grandparents, or young siblings or cousins, what about your friends and classmates' parents? They could get sick and risk death due to our selfishness, and no one deserves that. The vaccine is out and through the statistics I’ve seen, it’s going well, so we should stay at least a full 6 feet apart if not more, until we can all get vaccinated and truly be safe and hopefully immune, so no one else has to get sick and risk death. Thank you!
