Who does the Seasoning Sensei cater to?
The audience of this product is people who lack cooking skills and either don't know where to start learning or don't have the motivation to do so. This is a helpline of sorts to give people the confidence to cook food in the kitchen by having the seasoning sensei tell them what to do.

This product is not necessarily targeted at one group however as the promotional video will have a plot, it will be targeted at a certain age range as it will be more relatable to them. The promotional video will be targeted at teenagers and young adults who are too lazy or unmotivated to cook.

Jay Daniel Thompson John Weldon in the book Content Production for Digital Media published in 2022, raise some good thoughts as to how to reach an audience.
Age range: 16+ to people in their 20's and any other uni student (teenagers-young adults)
Personal Interests: Open to learning new skills that will benefit them in the future
Level of Education: Secondary school or university.
Platforms to access this audience: Youtube, Tiktok, Instagram, and other social media that feature short-form content
How long do members spend on these platforms: it is common for people to sit down and watch an hour or two of TikTok or youtube however youtube ads tend to get skipped as soon as possible and TikTok is centred around quick videos so to make a 30-second promotional video, it will need to grab the attention of the viewer within the first 5 seconds. Making the first 5 seconds attention-grabbing can be done by making it relatable or entertaining to the audience.

This was very interesting and i learnt that using music in the first 5 seconds of the ad could be detrimental to your video. This was interesting since you hear music in ads all the time but after closer analysing some ads, you realise that a lot of ads don't have music at the start of the video.

I remember looking at HTML back in 2017 and haven't touched it ever since so it is pretty fun to see how much I actually remember html (not alot).

Week 4 was a pretty good week as we looked into different ways to generate ideas, in class I tried the circle drawing method however a few others and myself were having problems printing, managed to get the sheet printed and drew a few ideas on the circles. I found the exercise interesting and enjoyed the challenge of coming up with ideas in a limited way, however, I didn't find that it contributed too much to the idea that I am pursuing. I later tried mind mapping ideas about what the video would look like and I found this to be a lot more efficient for me as similar ideas could be grouped together and it was a more visual way to see my thoughts about the Seasoning Sensei

The mindmap helped me present my ideas more clearly as I was able to see where my ideas led to and which ideas were actually relevant to the Seasoning Sensei

Currently, the most similar products to the seasoning sensei are health companies that send you meals to cook with recipes in the bix, with the message of these ads is that it is personalised food for you and the family. These brands don't have a mascot and instead market the convinience of having ready-to-cook meals.

The Seasoning sensei is a different product as rather than focussing on the convinience of sticking a meal in the oven, it will focus on the skills that can be learned from the art of cooking. The seasoning sensei doesn't give its customers a recipe, it guides them through the steps and explains effectively how to cook the food. The Seasoning Sensei's promotional video will be different by having the brand mascot (Seasoning Sensei) appear in the video whilst aiding the narrative. The narrative will be aimed at a specific age range as the narrative will allow them to better relate to the video.

A uni student on the couch in the living room with warm lighting is on a food delivery app and sees the delivery fees are way too much. So he goes to his fridge to see if he can cook anything from the fridge. He looks in the fridge and realises he hasn't cooked in ages and thinks it is not worth it. He closes the door and is startled as he sees the seasoning sensei next to his fridge.

The student asks who he is and he says he is the seasoning sensei, here to help him cook his food. He says he has scanned his fridge and sees that he can cook x amount of meals but chooses to waste money on fast food. Unistudent says he doesn't know how to cook, but the sensei says he can teach him. (In the kitchen now) Some B-roll of the seasoning sensei guiding the uni student will play whilst some short dialogue plays that better inform the viewer on the product and its functions. The dialogue will be focused on getting people in the kitchen.

As the Seasoning Sensei is explaining the product, it will cut to a gym goer asking if the Sensei can help out with bulking/high protein meals, to which the seasoning sensei responds with yes. If there is still enough time in the video, it could cut to either a parent asking if they know an easy meal for their kids or someone wanting to reduce food waste, which the seasoning sensei says they can do by changing the settings

The uni student's meal is finished, he sits at the table and takes a bite and thanks the Seasoning Sensei for teaching him how to cook. The Seasoning Sensei senses someone else needs help and exits the shot The video will end with a title card and some information aswell as the seasoning sensei voicing where you can get the app.

Final week of the assignment and I am feeling ok about my idea. I still have a fair amount of work to do as I was going off of a task sheet from week 2 but then realised there was another task sheet. Although this isn't the end of the world as I have done most of the work it is still a bit frustrating as I have to cram a lot of work now, however the work is doable.

In terms of the Seasoning sensei, at the start of the week I still thought that it needs refinement as i had alot of ideas but i needed to stick to one for the promotional video, luckily the various idea generation methods allowed me to see my thoughts clearly and i have been able to choose my target audience, and video treatment.

Kitchen Gun (inspiration)

BBC 2007, Kitchen Gun - In stores now! 🔫😂 - BBC, video, YouTube, 1 October, viewed 25 march 2023,
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-7NDP8V-6A&ab_channel=BBC>
Basic rundown:
A woman in the kitchen complains about how there is so much to clean. A Man comes in and talks about Kitchen gun.
Dirty dishes? Bang Bang Bang (He repeats this for other kitchen appliances)
the man wraps up by talking about the kitchen gun whilst the woman in the background is visibly distraught

Kitchen Gun is obviously not a real ad however the ad is somewhat similar to how I want to present my product where someone starts off with a problem but then someone comes in with a solution, although it is a cliche way to format an ad it is effective as the audience gets intrigued as how the problem will be solved. in the case of the kitchen gun, the problem is a dirty kitchen, whilst, for the seasoning sensei, it is someone not knowing what to eat.mThe high energy of this ad as well is something that I want to replicate, just talking to the audience will not entertain them. The dialogue needs to be short, sharp and shiny.

If this were a legitimate ad, then one of the most notable issues with it would be the eventual screaming at the audience that the male in the ad does. The screaming comes off as very threatening and not an inviting product.

De-Bono's six thinking hats.

Blue hat – process = What thinking/organisation is needed? Planning for action, what are the steps involved in creating your video?
To film the video, I will need a filming device and a clear idea of how the video will play out. The filming device will most likely be a phone as I do not have a camera. The treatment paragraph will serve as the plan for the video layout and filming effectively I will storyboard the promotional video to have an even clearer idea of the video.
The creative journal must be completed as a way to show my workings and how I got to the finalised idea for the video.
If other people will be featured in the video then the scheduling will need to be planned out as well as a consent form.

White hat – facts = Focusing on information and data, now you’ve defined your particular approach is there any information you don’t know and need to find out? What do you need to find out?
- there is a set date for this video that needs to be filmed and edited so that it meets the deadline.
- video must clearly convey the message of the product otherwise audience will be confused on wether the message is for them or what the product even is.
- must have a specific audience that the video is aiming to resonate with. As the advertisement will mainly be seen on platforms such as Instagram, Youtube and TikTok, it is more appropriate to target teenagers as they use these media platforms very often

Red hat – feelings = Represents emotions, feelings, intuition. What emotions are tied to your topic? How does your target audience feel about the topic, how do you want them to feel about it once they’ve seen your promotional video?
- I had some ideas I thought would be really fun to do in the 80 ideas and I can sometimes wonder how those ideas would've turned out instead of this one
- The target audience will hopefully resonate with my promotional video as they will be inspired to utilise the food in their fridge more often than getting takeout.

Green hat – creativity = Focus on ideas, creativity, possibilities and designs. How can you be really creative with your promotional video (eg. set design, costume, props, colour grading, packaging for your product, call to action graphic, etc).
By making the Seasoning Sensei play somewhat of a superhero role in the fact that he helps the person in the video, it gives me some options on how I can film the video. He could burst through the wall or just appear next to the character. The costuming can be creative as well, I have a few ideas in my head on what the character could look like, whether he wears a traditional superhero costume or a chef costume and a utility belt full of cooking utensils.
- use of colours and filming angles for the promotional video. warmer colours provide a more welcoming experience.
- the use of sound effects could make my promotional video more enjoyable/entertaining so that it is not reliant on dialogue.

Video Ideas:
1. uni student cooks proper scrap (promotes easy cooking and reducing food waste)
2. Parent doesn't know what to cook for their kids because they don't like their cooking (promotes cooking tasty food)
3. Person always wasting food. (promotes food waste reduction)
4. Someone trying to learn to cook from a confusing cookbook (promotes easy cooking)
5. Person 1 trying to cook to impress person 2 (promotes easy cooking)
6. Gym goer doesn't like the taste of their food anymore (promotes cooking tasty food)

Yellow hat – benefits = value, benefits, positives. Intentionally seeking the value of your video, what benefits/positives will come from your audience purchasing/donating/understanding your product/message?
The benefits of producing and filming this video will be that assignment 2 will be complete and I will be revisiting some camera and editing skills. The benefits for the people that purchase this product is that they can reduce food wastage and get the most out of their groceries instead of being reliant on services such as uber eats

Black hat – cautions = Focuses on critical thinking. Can be used to indicate a fault in logic, and points out incorrect info and faults and weaknesses with your video. Are there any hazards/potential problems to look out for when creating your video?
- a potential hazard of the video is that if I am to cook actual food, there is a risk that someone could be burned or injured through other ways when cooking.
- One issue that could occur in the video is that the message isn't clearly explained or that the target audience doesn't resonate well with it which means they skip the ad whether it is on a platform such as youtube or TikTok.
Another issue that could occur is the lack of proper lighting equipment, meaning that I will be limited to the lighting of my setting. This could affect the promotional video however colour correction could solve this issue

Colours are very important when it comes to branding, it is what makes a brand visually distinct. By having the colours of the brand match with the brand's ideals, there is a sense of credibility and trust that the audience gets.
I have decided to use the colour orange as the main brand colour due to it representing creativity as I believe it reflects the product's call to action to innovate and create food.

The use of brown and tan colours can represent earthiness and warmth. This is reflective of the brand as it encourages the use of non-artificial ingredients and healthier eating.

AIDA Process (double check on monday)

Attention
The attention of the audience must be captured within the first few seconds. To grab the audience's attention I will start the promotional video with a scenario that hopefully can relate to most of, if not, the whole audience that views this. The video will start off with someone looking through their fridge not knowing what they could make. I believe that if people can relate to the scenario in the video then they will want to watch the rest of the video to see how it plays out. To keep their attention, the seasoning sensei will be high energy and be enthusiastic about informing the audience about the services and the benefits of the product.

Interest
Food is something that many people enjoy but cooking can be hard and you can often ruin a meal through various factors. The interest in the product comes from the ease of accessibility to anyone with any form of experience in cooking. The interest in the product can also result from its multiple purposes as it can prioritise meals for bulking and cutting and for reducing food waste. (although I am not entirely sure how all these purposes of the product can be added into the video as this could be targeting too many people at once if it is included in the video).

Desire
When the audience desires something to eat, they want it to be convenient and affordable. The seasoning sensei is very affordable and although may have extra labour involved, over time will save money over utilising food delivery services often. Whether they have never cooked or are fairly competent, the Seasoning Sensei is supportive of all skill levels and removes the complexity of cooking. What makes the seasoning sensei better than the rest is that he tells you the best way to cook the chosen dish. Overall the desire to learn how to cook and to save money by ordering takeout is the main desire I hope the audience can resonate with.

Action
The promotional video will aim to call for the viewers to use the seasoning sensei over food delivery services as it utilises what food you already have. The call to action is to get more people involved in the kitchen and cook for themselves and the promotional video will reinforce this idea. The promotional video will motivate people to cook more often as there is no need to fear making a horrible meal. The audience that views the video will hopefully be promoted to use the product as it will be cheap and easy to use.

Kool-aid ad (inspiration)

Similar to Kitchen Gun, This Kool-Aid ad where 2 kids must catch some robbers is an ad which has high energy and also starts the video with a clear issue. The Kool-Aid man bursts through the wall and catches the robbers. The ad ends happily with everyone drinking Kool-aid. Although the scenario is not related to Kool-Aid, the Kool-Aid man bursts through the wall which has become synonymous with the brand's mascot. With the power of after-effects, the Seasoning Sensei could do something similar although it would be a stretch as I haven't worked with after-effects in a while. The ad has some quick cuts from shots as well which is something I might incorporate as well. What I find effective that I will incorporate into my video is to show someone using the product and being satisfied with it. By seeing the product being used and the results the audience will get a better idea of the product and how it can be used.

The tone of the promotional video is very important as it can affect how your audience resonates with the video. I believe the seasoning sensei will best get its message across through an inspirational and cheerful tone.

What makes these 2 tones effective is that cooking can often be a hassle with issues like having to clean up afterwards, a lack of energy or lack of time to cook. Whilst some people are not motivated to cook for themselves for whatever reasons they have. I want the audience to resonate with the Promotional video which will be done by being inspirational and cheerful, the audience can be inspired and motivated to cook as the cheerful tone can remove the stigma of cooking being complicated as the Seasoning Sensei will take them through the process step by step and teach them how to cook their meal of choice.

What does the font need to achieve?
The Seasoning Sensei aims to encourage and invite people from all skill levels into the kitchen and for Font/typography to further this message, a welcoming and friendly font will be used.

Possible fonts: taken from Google Fonts
Rubik (regular 400, Bold 700): https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Rubik?noto.lang=grc_Grek
Nunito (regular 400)

Rubik's stands out for its clean rounded shape, making it welcoming but structured aswell, which fits the message of the brand quite nicely. Nunito is similar to Rubik but is a rounder font and feels very casual. The font doesn't feel very inspiring due to its lack of boldness. Whilst Rubik has slightly rounded corners, the thicker fonts have a good mix between boldness and rounded which is appealing to look at.

Using 1 font family is effective as it keeps branding consistent. if too many fonts are used by a brand then it can be hard to associate the brand with the video

In this video, Gordon Ramsey is selling his cooking course. He includes dialogue over some B-rolls of him cooking some finely crafted meals. The main selling point of this course is Gordon Ramsey as he has had years of experience.

After doing the readings from the first few practicals it is evident that he doesn't use music at the very start of the ad. This was actually found to possibly impact the advertisement in a negative way (Thompson & Weldon, 2022). Instead of music the sound of a pan-producing fire is used which paired with the top-down shot looks professional and the audience is able to understand what this video will be about right away.
The use of B-Roll in my video can be beneficial as I can have dialogue over shots of ingredients being prepped for cooking, this can keep the audiences attention so that the promotional video will not stay on 1 shot for too long.
