She has received global recognition for her novel Como Agua Para Chocolate.

She also filmed a movie based on her book.

The story is about a family in 1900.

There were a lot of ranches/farms in rural Mexico. Everyone shared chores; they had to take care of the animals and the harvests, clean the house and prepare the food. All of the ranches/farms together functioned as a community.
