haha I am the one who will dive in and move ahead without any plan or thinking about next steps, just GO!. I need my organizers! I enjoyed Anne Rene's presentation.
Regarding membership, diversity, and inclusiveness; i think we all are interested in becoming better humans and continuing to grow. I see lots of positive growth from when I first became involved in WAEA in 2014. When Lou was speaking and mentioned 'horrifying" things that happened 4 years ago, it occurred to me that few of the people who led and regularly attended WAEA meetings 4 years ago are present at today's meeting....Mari, myself....maybe Anne Rene? Time flies and plays tricks on me so maybe there are others, but regardless, we must listen to concerns and decide how to proceed. I agree, that we can and should reach out to native and indigenous artists to present. I welcome any suggestions from the membership. Our monthly PD provides $100 for a presenter, I am open to discussion regarding other forms of compensation.
As far as preventing "horrifying" things from happening, I think that might be impossible when we are a group of diverse volunteers, but we can be more vigilant about immediately and in the moment addressing such incidents. The problem I see is awareness. How can we determine what is offensive and to whom? I assume we all are aware of some forms of offense; racist and sexist jokes, put downs, etc., but I am hearing there may also be more subtle (to the average suburban white art teacher, anyway) aggressions and micro-aggressions that may be slipping by unnoticed.
I am interested in learning more about how we, as an organization, has failed in the past so that we can learn and then take action to make necessary changes.

I am from Tacoma, WA and I am the WAEA Splatter editor and new Co-President. I also JUST got married on July 17, 2021!

My vision/s for WAEA are extensive and varied, but my main vision is to help create a DIVERSE working leadership group that disperses responsibilities equally so that our organization can survive and thrive if one or two leaders leave.

Hi, I live in Vancouver WA with my husband and 2 dogs in our empty nest. I am really excited to become a first time Grandma in January 2022! Recently I moved to a parent partnership alternative school in the Battle Ground school district where I teach K-12 studio art along with Becky Broyles.
For the past several years I have been the ESD 112 rep for SW WA and last year began facilitating the monthly virtual PD along with Becky, the Tech Madame.
My vision for WAEA is for it to reach the far corners of the state, connecting with all art teachers regularly, bringing them into the organization creating a dynamic and diverse community.

Hey Hey! I am an Art & PE teacher in the Edmonds SD and live in Everett with my wife, son and occasionally our niece!

I am the Rep for Region 189 for the Northwest area.

I am hoping the WAEA expands our list of peers to include more teachers and attendees of multicultural backgrounds and how to incorporate more multicultural artists into our schools curriculum.

We can offer a group which supports teachers and educators in all areas of visual arts. We should make a list of artists and resources to share with one another and reach out to multicultural artists and educators to integrate into our classrooms, schools and the WAEA. Reach out and share!

-What does your association offer that no other entity can offer?
For me an organization of educating artists, that can share, teach and learn skills related to educating others about art, art skills, and artists ways of thinking.

-What are you enticing young professional with?
As an organization I hope we are helping them navigate who they are as art educators and building skills in craft as well as how to advocate for arts education in all forums.

Long-time members?
As an organization we offer professional development opportunities, collaboration with art minded people.

-How do you keep members who may join due to the conference location?
Offering collaboration coffee chats, and monthly virtual workshops

-Are you recognizing member for membership longevity?
At the annual conference there were some awards that were fun, spray painted wooden art models that were some thing like that I think for long time membership participation. What is considered longevity at this point?

Ideas To Ponder For Next Session: Fall Conference-Who can we invite to host In-Person Workshops in each region of WA?
Join Washington State Art Education Association for our 2021 Fall Conference. We will be partnering with Wisconsin and other art organizations to bring you a wide variety of virtual art workshops that can be accessed from October through the end of the year. In addition, there will also be in-person workshops in every region of Washington State. These workshops will provide attendees hands-on art activities and collaboration with peers in smaller venues. Information will be updated regularly on our website (https://www.waeaboard.net), so stay tuned!

haha I am the one who will dive in and move ahead without any plan or thinking about next steps, just GO!.
