I started out the lesson asking kids to go find me one of the Harry Potter books; they looked at me blankly. I considered this my pretest. I presented the kids with a Prezi presentation and then had them do an activity to find a fiction book using the card I gave them. This was to introduce the kids to the rules, explain the layout of the library, the resources we have available, and how to maneuver around the library independently. The activity required that every child go find a specific book I gave them a card for, and this assessment revealed that they could not locate a book of fiction in our library.

Explain to the students that the district has filters so they don't go to inappropriate sites that might hurt their online presence. I used the Common Sense Media site for my lesson plan. These lessons are good for 9-12, with varying levels of relevancy as talking about jobs and how what they put out to the internet could come back to haunt them when they apply to college or look for a job if people who decide their acceptance look at the student's cyber profile. This will be more interesting and relevant to older kids than a 9th grader, so we discuss it more at the upper grades. However, the parts about cyberbullying are relevant to all of the students, and so I share that part with all of them.
https://www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship
