Despite his old age Pope Francis still travels all around the world spreading the word of God. Over the years he was able to accept and adapt to the new times. Not only that he is able to connect with the youth despite being decades older than them.

Saint Lucy of Syracuse

Saint Lucy was only 5 years old when something devasting happened to her. Her father had died leaving her and her mother alone without a protective guardian. Because of that plenty of men wanted to marry her for the wealth that she will inherit, but Saint Lucy remained faithful to the Lord. She was to be married to another young and wealthy man but Saint Lucy refused. She wanted to give her riches to the poor, she wanted to remain faithful to God, she wanted to give her all to him. Angered by her decision the young man stabbed her and gouged her eyes out. When Saint Lucy died she was able to forgive the man even after all his crimes towards her. I first read about her in 1st grade when I was put into her section (1-St. Lucy), her story really inspired me to strengthen my faith in the Lord. Knowing that even after all that has happened to her she chose to still remain faithful to God and in doing so allowed her to make peace with what has happened to her. I would like to be as merciful and determined as her.

Father Manny Flores, SJ

I don't remember when I first met Fr. Manny but I was maybe 7 or 8 years old when I first attended a mass he was presiding. It was in the DTASC as most masses were, but unlike most masses I wasn't falling asleep nor getting bored. He was always full of passion and would interact with us so much, homilies would always long and sometimes even filled with games. He would walk into the audience with a mic and at times even with treats like chocolate I even remember him having money as a prize once, he would ask them questions about the mass like why did Mother Mary visit Elizabeth and whoever got it right would get a prize. The whole auditorium was always filled with laughter, I didn't know a single person that disliked him. I mean who could he was a kind and generous man, always willing to share his knowledge on the Lord. We would sometimes see him after mass when he would at the cafeteria, kids would swarm his table asking him with questions and even if he was hungry he would always welcome us with a smile and answers ready. Even with all that sweetness surrounding him he was able to be serious and tell us about the darkest times in his life. He would tell us how he got through it and would encourage us to not give up, that when there is darkness there is light you just have to look hard enough for it. It's been almost 3 years since I last met him and I haven't been as attentive in mass as I used to be, and even though the other priests are just as faithful to the Lord no one can beat the connection Fr. Manny is able to create with the audience, and it's why he played a huge role in my growth as a Catholic.
