During this holiday, many families decorate altars, or ofrendas. The ofrendas symbolize the loss of a loved one. They are used to honor and remember the dead, but they do not worship them, Catholics only worship God. The altars should almost always include a fine white tablecloth, images of Saints, a candle to help guide the dead on the way back, and flowers.
