- EF is a mental process that allows people to create order in the chaos around them.
- Allows people to plan, focus, remember directions and multi-task.
- Helps to organize behavior and order tasks from most important to least important, even if that means delaying instant gratification.
- Is a control system in the brain that develops as humans mature.
- EF manifests in multiple ways: time management, mental flexibility, self-monitoring, initiating tasks, self-management, emotional control, inhibitory control, goal setting and planning are a few.

The answer is EVERYONE! The skills just manifest differently as the brain matures.
- Young children are born without EF skills. Their parents regulate for them.
- As the child matures, they need external supports to use EF skills, but these lessen as they get older.
- As the brain matures, EF skills shift from needed external supports to relying on internal supports.
- EF skills are not fully mature until humans are between 25 and 30 years old!
- In early adulthood, the different areas of the brain regions start to work together to strengthen EF skills.
- EF is like a muscle. It can be trained and strengthened as you practice!
- Children and teens have a difficult time using EF skills because they are not developed yet.
- Children with exceptionalities may have an even more difficult time using EF skills, and need more external supports to practice and strengthen these skills.

- Think about whether the task is something a person can't do, or won't do. It is always best to believe the person is missing a skill rather than just not doing something.
- It takes a team of people to assess a child, who sees the child in various settings.
- Assessments can be informal and formal
- Interviews, school records, behavior observations, standardized tests and assessment rubric with a continuum are some ways to assess EF skills.
