I believe that filing a law suit was right because if students' schools are not receiving equitable funding, they will lack necessary resources to be successful. In contrast, I don't fully agree with the court's final decision. I think that it was extremely appropriate that the court clearly stated that all children should be provided with a sound basic education regardless of circumstances. What I don't fully agree with is where it was stated that the state is fully responsible for delivering Leandro's right to every child. I think the local school districts should obtain some type of responsibility when regarding this situation, considering some counties and districts have more money than others, rather than looking at the state as a whole - this is why I selected that I do not agree with the decision.

Because the problem with funding is that many Counties and school districts have more money than there school districts. School districts that have less money to put back into school revenue. State. I believe the decision to choose equality vs choosing equity was made in the final ruling. This belief was caused by the ruling that every county or district would be granted equal finances, support, etc. However, the reality for most low income schools compared to schools with plentiful financial accommodations is their is still a apparent disadvantage. Allowing for privileged districts and schools to receive similar benefits as the significantly lacking districts is counterproductive. However, one thing I do agree with is the court putting the responsibility on the state to deliver a quality education to all students. One thing I do not completely agree with is funding not being equal. Even though it is not realistic for funding from every source to be equal, the funding that schools are receiving does make a difference on student and their educations. I do think that the court should do more and could do more to ensure that schools are getting the funding that is necessary. I also think that even though it is up to the individual state, more could be done on a Federal level to ensure that schools are getting adequate funding and students are getting a quality education.

State ruling. I fully support and agree with the statement that all children within the state have a “fundamental state constitutional right to the ‘opportunity to receive a sound basic education’” (Leandro v. State). I also believe that it is not possible for all districts or counties to have equal funding, as this would fail to close the growing resource gap between those schools within higher-income and lower-income districts. Those schools previously at a much higher disadvantage would require more resources to bring student achievement up to the same level as their counterparts. Therefore, while equal funding isn’t the answer, equitable funding is necessary. In order for all students to be afforded the same opportunity to a sound basic education, all schools throughout the U.S. must be able to provide the necessary resources for both students and teachers. The amount of funding and resources providing to schools has a massive impact on the ability of staff to provide all students, especially those who are disadvantaged, with an adequate, sound education. However, I do not agree with the ruling in that it places sole responsibility on the state to provide these resources.
