We have a three counties partnership (Telemark, Vestfold and Buskerud), that share a Internet connection. Our ISP delivers a MPLS-network that is terminated with a 2x10 GBps internet connection. This is a big connection yes, But there are approx 10 school only in Telemark that share this connection, I don't know the number of schools in Buskerud and Vestfold. Each school has it's own Firewall (checkpoint), Most of the servers are virtualized (VMWare), this saves a lot of hardware enenrgy. The net is very stable, but there have been a few times with DDOS attacks. This is handled by our ISP. Personally I have not been involved in these central operation, I only work with the local IT-operations.

We use a completely separate connection for our VOIP, as we can't afford interruptoin in our telephone connectivity. Another issue is the connection to other campusses.

I work for several primary schools in Ghent, Belgium. The City of Ghent established these schools. There are two networks; an administrative part and an educational part. The networks are managed by Digipolis, a semi independent organisation that manages all of the cities IT infrastructure. In addition the admin network is supported by Digipolis. The educational part is supported by me and my colleagues on other schools.
We have city services for maintaining our infrastucture as well. The fact that the cost for infrastructure does not affect our budget directly is a huge boon, on the other hand we are dependent of and sometimes curtailed byCity regulations (e.g. WIFI restrictions).
Our ISP contracts are also managed by Digipolis and are sufficient for our needs. We get the same quality of servive as the cities administration, can ask for upgrades when needed and generaly keep up with modern standards.

In Ireland secondary schools are connected to a nationally managed Broadband service of 100Mbps. By an large its dependable service. We used have 17 wifi access points (AP's)and they were constantly being overloaded and needed to be power cycled. Recently we upgraded our AP's to Ubiquiti . We have now 21 points and they all are capaable of determining the best channel on which to broadcast. They are also dual Ghz as in 2.4 or 5.0 Ghz capable so we have a degree of flexibility. This new system is in place now for 3 weeks and has not needed any attention in that time. I would like to encourage teachers now to move off the server and into the "Cloud" using GSuite. There is a dependency on network folder resources not available remotely, when teachers go home.
By moving to the cloud we achieve 24hr access to shared resources from anywhere and also backup of all files/resources etc

In common with other secondary schools in Ireland we have a 100Mbps synchronous connection which is maintained and monitored by HeaNet. There are different levels of filtering available and it is possible to split your network into 2 and apply different levels of filtering to each part. Filtering is applied using BrightCloud. Schools have no access to the Heanet hardware (Juniper & Ceragon) other than to plug in patch leads. Connection is robust and generally reliable - although just last week most schools in Ireland were without internet for entire school day - which highlights the need for backup connection if you rely heavily on the Cloud. We use Ruckus APs in the main academic block - with a few SSIDs. We have Ubiquiti in another part of the site, and even a few Meraki AP (lovely GUI). Would love to have automatic failover when primary internet connection goes down - at the moment I have to manually change the default gateway on the DHCP server and get clients to reboot in order to pick up backup connection.

Our school connects from a cisco router which feeds three internal switches and follows on down to the classroom access points and wireless routers. Our three switches are 1gb switches but our internet connectivity is around 15mb p/s. There are over 183 devices serving 500+ students and 50 full time staff. Our cisco router acts as a firewall and internally we run a cloud intranet meaning we filter access through password protected sites. We also run under the heanet system which filters content for students.

My school is connected to the Internet via three DSL connection lines using TPLink Routers. These routers are connected to a TPLink Multi-WAN router, which is responsible for the bandwidth load balance and for the high availability of the Internet access. The ISP is the Hellenic School Network, which is administered by the Ministry of Education Affairs and the speed of the DSL connections are 24Mbps. The school LAN consists of distribution cabinets placed in secure places in each floor, in which we installed the appropriate patch panels and switches. The speed of the internal network is gigabit. Also, there is a secure server room with 2 servers and the central distribution cabinet. The role of the first server is file server, print server, proxy server and firewall. The second server is a mail server. The most of the classrooms have IWBs or laptops connected to video projectors. Also, there is WiFi connection with the use of the appropriate Access Points and with different SSIDs for teachers and students. The students use the WiFi only in specific cases for secure purposes.

They filter the content and manage the connectivity so challenges tend to relate to connecting local PCs to the network. In our building each classroom has 4 network access points with a wired connection for the teacher PC. We bring laptops to the room and connect an AP to one of the network points and turn the room into a hotspot as required. Also we have implemented Wi-fi on an ad hoc basis in certain areas of the building using Cisco APs

The 5 of them have interactive boards, laptom and projector with connection wireless internet at a good level of access. We have the opportunity to teach by internet and it's very useful. The two of the boards and laptops/projectors we've earned by our hands, as we knitted scarves and caps and bought them. We 've also collected the olive olive oils of our school yard and bought part of them. This year we will do the same to add some new ones for other classrooms they haven't already digital tools. It's very eomotionally nice for teaching such students!

We was a Pilot school, so we received netbooks for a whole class, the we was part of Generation Web Project of our region, Lombardy and consequently we received some grants to implement the connectivity both wired and wifi. We had also the possibility to buy IWB in almost all the classrooms, So, now the majority of teachers are trying to do their best to use technology in their lessons.

I work in a Technical School and as other Greek colleagues aforementioned here the ISP that is responsible for providing network services to schools is the Greek School Network (under the auspices of the Ministry of Education). My school is connected to the Internet via the city's MAN with a speed of 100Mbps (powered by a Cisco router). The school has 5 IT labs with 12 PCs each. The PCs in their majority run on Windows OS and some of them run Ubuntu Linux as well. There is a stand-alone lab as well, that is consisted solely by laptops. Each IT lab has its own administrator, who is responsible for his/her computing equipment consistency. Every lab has its own network infrastructure based on star topology, supported by a router. There is a slight problem with the Wifi service provided and the signal propagation to the classrooms (school building occupied a vast area). In general, school teachers are satisfied by the network services provided in my school.

In our school, until last year there was a common internal network both for the administrative offices than classrooms. Internet connection was provided by an external provider with a standard ADSL connection. The bandwidth was insufficient and often the system crashed and blocked the access to the web, or was so slow as to be unusable. This year we have redesigned the network using a connection with high-speed fibre, we installed modems WiFi covering all areas of the building, we have separated the administrative network from teaching for safety reasons, given an ID and a password access to all users to be able to tag network access. Now things are much better.

Filtering is applied using BrightCloud. This is all done centrally by the dept of education. We generally have very good speeds and the internet rarely goes down however in some areas of the school the internet is very hit and miss and often doesn't work. I think this is due to the cabling. We outsource our IT services but if a teacher is having trouble with connectivity etc I would usually be the first port of call and this is very time consuming.

Broadband speeds vary by location and we have a new fibre connection which gives us about 28mbps usually. It is filtered centrally and they provide a good phone service for dealing with queries. We have cat5 cabling and the main challenge is enabling wifi to improve the usage of a set of iPads which are shared throughout our school.

My school network connects to the Internet via a 2 Mbps connection, that's very low in 2016. Speedtest reports an actual value of 1.6! This is my challenge above all. We have 21 courses and about 500 students. In many classrooms there is an IWB with Internet access and there are two labs with 30 machines.. so, bandwith connection is totally inadeguate. The lan infrastructure is a star form. There are two separated subnets: one for administration and another for theachers and students. There are two firewalls that filter and protect the network; these devices, however, are old and are going to be changed with new one's more performing and with better possibility in filtering access and traffic from and to the Internet. In the last year I added to the wired network 10 AP Wifi only for teacher needs. They are simple AP and can only support few contemporary connections. The access is protected by wpa-2.

The two previous companies have provided a very slow link, and every attempt to enforce it failed. So to solve the emergency of the secretariat the head teacher added another link via satellite, because copper link was at it maximum speed. When a fiber connection was proposed, it was accepted enthusiastically, but it was another failure: the fiber arrived and stopped at the cabinet that was several hundred meters far from the school and continued with the same copper wiring. Now, after one-year street works we have the fiber to the building so, the week before Christmas, the final test measured over 50 Mbps. When we'll return to school we''ll measure the speed when all the users we'll be connected with the digital school register and Google Classroom.

Nikoletta Soula, Greece My school connects to the Internet through the Greek School Network. It is connected to it via our local Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) using fiber. We have a high speed connection to the internet, which is restricted from the old equipment. The labs' computers are connected via LAN at the Internet. The teachers' computers or other digital devices can connect through WiFi in the teacher’s office. All computers have firewall and antivirus software. Almost every class has wired connection to the teachers laptop.

However some files/folders on the server are only accessible to teachers. As our server is now ageing we are slowly moving towards cloud storage of resours files and student e-portfolios. However we are conscious of data protection and are storing data files on local machines and backing up onto the office machine.
