Many people chose to celebrate  Matariki at different times. Others may observe  it  at the first full moon or first new moon following the rising of Matariki. The location of the houses depends on where the sun, moon and stars rise and are set. By the help of this the navigator is able to attemp to keep the canoe on course  relative to these observations.</div>]]></description>
