Group 1: Case studies on curriculum models by Adam Dwight

In your allocated group, answer the following four questions based on the attached three case studies using the Jamboard allocated to your group.

(1) Identify which department aligns with each curriculum model (Product, Process, Praxis) and critically evaluate the clues that led you to this conclusion.
(2) Analyse the assessment methods used in each department. How do these methods reflect the underlying curriculum model?
(3) Evaluate the potential impact of each department's approach on student well-being and engagement.
(4) Interpret the subtle impacts—both positive and negative—of each department's approach on students, teachers, and the community. What are the less obvious consequences that might not be immediately apparent?

1.Being an arena of social change, curriculum praxis applies here because equality and diversity is a large part. Different genders, faiths and a more inclusive atmosphere just like a basketball match.

Impact - Students are being encourage to have a voice and finding the confidence to tell the tutor how they learn. Establishing a inclusive environment will promote a positive and safe learning experience for all.

Positive - Its encouraging everyone to be confident in engaging and bringing their own personal thoughts and contributions into the area.

Negative - Overemphasis on Reflection: While reflection is crucial, an excessive focus on it can lead to a paralysis of analysis, preventing action. This can hinder progress and limit the impact of educational initiatives.

Curriculum process - Reflecting on the methods in the process to constantly improve the end result. Adjusting the process each time to perfect the outcome, just like a real kitchen.

Impact - A constantly developing and evolving curriculum that can positively effect the students. Reflecting on the process can improve the experience and journey of the students.

Positive - Collaboration and Input: The process model often involves collaboration among educators, administrators, and other stakeholders. This can lead to a more comprehensive and relevant curriculum that reflects the needs and interests of students and the community.

Negative - Resistance to Change the process model can be resistant to change, as it is often based on established procedures and standards. This can make it difficult to adapt to new educational challenges or to incorporate innovative teaching methods.

The blue print has being manufactured. Criteria is set. Required standard must be upheld. No flexibility. Just like science lab. There is no deviation. Only facts.

Impact - Students might become disengaged and disadvantaged many learners. If you only deliver what's in the product, there is no room to meet individual learner needs.

Positive - Accountability and Transparency: The product model can increase accountability and transparency in curriculum development. By setting clear goals and objectives, educators can be held accountable for student achievement.

Negative - Overemphasis on Structure and Outcomes: A primary focus of the product model is on creating a well-structured curriculum with clearly defined outcomes. While this can be beneficial, an excessive emphasis on structure and outcomes can limit flexibility and creativity in the classroom. It can also lead to a narrow focus on measurable results, neglecting other important aspects of education such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity.
