A quality text is one that accurately represents various races, cultures, and ethnicities around the world; it is one that allows students to see themselves and those who differ from them within the text. A quality text is one that has an intriguing storyline and captivating illustrations that enhance the story.

Every school year, my classroom is filled with students of various races, cultures, and ethnicities. Therefore, I will use this text set to ensure that every student can see themselves in texts, learn about the students around them, and see examples of actual authors who look like them. I plan to conduct a week-long study around this text set at the beginning of the school year to celebrate the diversity that exists in my classroom and build an inclusive community. After introducing students to the books in this text set, I will then incorporate them into my classroom library for students to read during independent or partner reading. In addition, I will share this text set with the K-2 teachers in my school building.
