Contagion: I think that this word has been in everyone's conversation due to the circumstances and situations we have had and we still have these days. Personally, every time I heard this word I became really nervous because I could not stop thinking about the risks and the dangers it could generate, apart from the tension produced by knowing that there were more and more contagions and faster and faster every day.

Lockdown: Well, at the beginning they declared the lockdown, I was quite upset and a little angry as well because I couldn’t imagine how I would survive without hanging out with my friends or just without going to school! But, I have to confess that it was not so bad. Thanks to this circumstance I have been able to spend more time with my family and also to learn how to communicate in different ways. In addition, I had the advantage of having a detached house so I have been able to practise some outdoor activities too, although I would have rather practised them with my friends, my family has also been good company!

Work from home: Personally, I believe that this last phase has been the most difficult one to deal with. At the moment we were told that we would do online classes, I got nervous and uneasy because I thought it was going to be really difficult to follow lessons and to understand the subjects in this way. At first, it was. Video calls turned out to be a real disaster because of the noise and the problems with the sound or with the Internet, but I think the most stressing point was to complete all the exercises of each subject. That supposed great organisation skills, which I was acquiring with time, so at the end it wasn’t so bad.

When we were in the pandemic time, I felt stressed at first because it was the first time of my life that I was at home for so long without going out. Also, they always said in the news that it would only be 15 days, but there were more and more positive cases and those 15 days became 20, 30…

Then, when the pandemic was progressing and you could go out to work or to do necessary things, I felt alone at home because my parents were going to work and I still did not have school yet. Besides, being without seeing your friends for so long is hard because you have always been able to hug them whenever you wanted, have them close… But in those moments you could not.

Finally, when the government said that we were not in a state of alarm and that we could leave our house regularly, i felt much better. But apart from that at the moment we were not as good as I would like, because all over the world there are still cases and deaths.

HEROES / ASYMPTOMATIC / CASE FATALITY RATE

The three words that represent better the pandemic for me are heroes, asymptomatic and case fatality rate. To begin with, I have chosen the hero concept because I admire our attitude towards this difficult and special situation. Everyone has changed their way of life and this situation has made us put ourselves in the place of others.

Secondly, the speech locution asymptomatic for me has been an important lexeme since all this started. It makes me feel bewildered, considering that you can have the virus and give it to people that can die if they get infected.

Finally, the concept case fatality rate has made me feel frustrated and sad for so many days during these months. This rate has been so high; since this pandemic started 32.225 people have died. Listening everyday how many people have died and that you can't do anything to help has been very frustrating for me.

In conclusion, this situation is so difficult for everyone. All of us are confused due to not knowing what to do. Despite that, we have to be positive and follow the instructions that the government gives us, because if we go all together we are going to escape from this challenging situation.

EMOJI

During this situation I have missed this emoji. It consists of an emoji of the balloon of the world that is surrounded by some proteins, that simulated the proteins that the coronavirus has. It show us that this is a

global problem. It does not depend on where you live, how much money you have… In conclusion we have to be all together and help others all we can, because we can be in the same situation tomorrow.

FACE MASK / LOCKDOWN/ UNCERTAINTY/ BEING ISOLATED/ INFECTED

COVID-19, a virus that has changed our lives drastically. If we look back at last February for example, going out without a face mask, concerts, parties… we wouldn't have expected what was going to happen, and now, some months later, everything is different, everything has changed. The time we spent in lockdown was definitely hard for everyone, of course, there are different situations and not all of us went through the same things, but I truly believe that it was difficult for everybody. Therefore, I have chosen this picture to show how I felt during this global pandemic and I think it represents it in a proper way. Firstly, this photo was taken in April 2020, during the lockdown, so we can see how a man is standing right next to a calendar counting the days left to go outside and return to the routine we were used to. Those days were really frustrating. I remember having some uncertainty because we didn't know when this situation would end, but in fact, I still don't know. In my opinion, being isolated was actually one of the roughest parts of the pandemic due to the fact that we couldn't see our friends or relatives. Even though we could facetime each other, it wasn't the same and I was really looking forward to reuniting with them again, so I think this picture really represents the feelings I had at that moment. Lastly, the number of infected people was huge and that was something that caused fear among all of us. Sadly, coronavirus is still here and as we all know, it's really contagious, but at least we have been able to return to school and to the routine we were used to. Therefore, it's quite an advance.

First of fall, I have to say that the quarantine was like a big wheel. Some days I was super happy and other ones I was so sad. At that time, I thought about every single problem I had and that was the worst moment. Sometimes I saw a film or I spoke with friends by video call. When I was bored I tried to exercise for my health because when we are at home all the time, we tend to eat more, we don’t have anything better to do.

Apart from that, I think that the Covid-19 is the worst thing that has ever happened in the world. The students had to do work from home and in that way we couldn’t learn well. When the government said we could go out, we had to wear face masks and I was so uncomfortable with it. Now, we have to wear those things in class and one day I am going to die because sometimes I’m hot and I can’t take it off.

I ride horses, and when we finally went to the equestrian place, everything was different. At all times, the people who work there have to disinfect all the things that people would touch.

We have to be responsible because if we aren’t, everything is going to get worse and I can’t be all my life with the fear that I am going to infect my family or the fear to infect myself.

It´s only been eight months since it all exploded, I wasn´t aware of the gravity of the Covid-19 until I was locked up in my house. That´s why I find it hard to assimilate it and be able to describe what it means to me. The words that come to my mind are: anxiety, uncertain, social distance, loneliness and despair.

This is the picture I have chosen to represent my quarantine
On the one hand, the anxiety I felt because I didn´t know how to manage the situation, also uncertainly I think it´s been something we´ve all felt at some moment because it´s been a new situation. On the other hand, social distance is a very important word because when they started letting us go for a walk it took me 2-3 weeks to get out again because I didn´t feel comfortable walking with people around me,.Fortunately loneliness hasn´t been something that I personally felt but I have thought a lot about it and what it has supposed to people who live alone or old people that couldn´t see their family. Finally the desperation that all the health staff might have felt I just can´t imagine that feeling. That´s why I wanted to include that word.

A new language for me

If you are asking what the coronavirus is, let me explain to you. It is a disease which has caused millions of deaths around the world. Therefore, between March and June, there has been a massive lockdown because the government wanted to prevent people from catching the virus.

During this time, we have created a new language for coronavirus and through this hard situation, it has helped people laugh and commiserate. Many of the newly popular terms are used to remind us of the social distance such as, ‘virtual happy hour’, ‘covideo party’ and ‘quarantine and chill’ and most of it applies the “corona” prefix.

On the other hand, apart from funny statements, some lexicologists are trying to create new formal expressions so as to keep up with the changes the pandemic has brought. For instance, “Covid-19”. Moreover, there are some other words or expressions which existed before but because of the situation gained another meaning, including “natural disaster” and “perfect storms”, They can create the impression that the pandemic was unavoidable and inevitable.

As well as these expressions, some terms have been put into practice and obtained more importance than before, for example, “antibody”, “lockdown”, “contagious”, “disinfectant”, quarantine”, “face mask”, etc.

To sum up, in my opinion, and in my own experience, the five words which somehow represent the pandemic are face mask, coronavirus, immune, infected and physical distance. The reason why is that when I am with my friends, we use them as a way to make jokes and make the situation more bearable.

In my opinion, Covid-19 caught us off guard and it was difficult for us to assimilate the situation because everything happened very suddenly, and without realizing it, we were all confined at home because of a global pandemic. We are already used to saying it but if you stop to think about it it's very heavy!

At the beginning, the situation was very strange and it was a bit scary to see how the numbers of infected and mortality rate were rising faster and faster. It was necessary to take measures and decisions very quickly, that is why I have chosen this photo, I think it represents very well the effort that we all had and have to do, especially the doctors and nurses to fight the coronavirus as quickly as possible.

Thanks to the face masks and the hand sanitizer, little by little we have achieved to get out of the chaos of the beginning, and the number of infections has been progressively decreasing, that is why their proper use is so important. The truth is that it is a bit stifling to have to wear the mask, especially at school and at work, and not knowing how long we will have to be in this situation, is stressful and frightening. But for now it is the only thing we can do and I think we will get used to it.

This whole situation caught us by surprise and they confined us, quarantining everyone in their homes. The cities were empty, there was no movement on the roads. The world stopped. It was quite hard not to be able to leave the house but in this way we helped stop the virus and slow down climate change a bit.

We are returning to a strange normality, where we have to be everywhere with the face mask, wash our hands with hand sanitizer at all hours, keeping physical distances and many other hygiene and safety measures.

I don't want to go back to the situation we were in a few months ago, therefore it seems necessary to maintain these security measures and be responsible.
