The quotations provided support the idea that curiosity and knowledge are things to be avoided and discriminated against. In modern society, people are accepting information our government is putting out and not questioning or wondering why these things are done. However, people do not know if the information provided is accurate and true, and actually neglect the possibility of other ideas that could be factual. For example, our national leader, Donald John Trump, believes that global warming is a hoax. Because he is our president, he is trying to convince the nation that global warming is false, but he does not have factual information to prove his point. He is attempting to brainwash his citizens and stop them from questioning his beliefs by giving them fake news. This relates to Fahrenheit 451 because Captain Beatty tries to control Montag by telling him books are a bad influence, even though he has no factual proof. He uses stories and made up anecdotes to convince people that they should listen to him and not be curious about the knowledge within books. Ultimately, the current society is being controlled into believing certain things without question just as the society in Fahrenheit 451 is brainwashed into not wanting to obtain knowledge or being curious.
