His article is connected to this course through applying pseudoscience via agenticity as its entire purpose is to provide awareness that a medical professional is attending exorcisms to advise exorcists of whether or not a medical diagnosis can be applied to potential demonic possession. However, the potential flaws in Dr. Gallagher’s article stems from his strong emotional connection to Catholicism, as he himself is Catholic; therefore, biases may be formed from his religious beliefs (whether conscious or not).

A girl who is apparently possessed by a demon while a person of faith performs an exorcism is the focus of this picture. Its connection to this course is based on pure skepticism, in its application of its truthfulness. Here, the red flag is appeal to authority as the image utilizes the ideals created by film and celebrities in its depiction of what a demonic possession looks like. The picture was credited to Udra 11 Shuttershock within a Livescience article; however, is being used to support its skeptical view of the demonic possession and applied exorcism. It's targeted to people's belief systems by way of a quote underneath it (cannot be seen in this attachment) which states "To the extent that exorcisms "work," it is due to the power of suggestion and psychology: If you believe you're possessed (and that an exorcism will cure you), then it just might".

Although it provides pictures/drawings of each of the demons, as well as the names and descriptions of their demonic powers, their depictions are a result of famous drawings and philosophy. Further, it has been found that people who experience visions of demons are experiencing a medical/mental disorder.

In this picture, it seems that the Yan-gant-y-tan demon is in a park where a child is playing. Although this picture shows what looks like a dark figure off to the right, it connects to this course as it can be debunked by zooming in which adhere's to the red flag known as proof by verbosity. The red flag is evident in this picture as, although there is a very dark and scary looking black figure of something that is very similar to the yan-gant-y-tan demon, the claim is not true. If one zoom's in on the original picture, one can clearly tell that it is shaded tree trunks and branches.
Although this picture, at first glance, does seem to spark curiosity, people will apply what they want to see rather than take a detailed look at what it truly is. Through this, emotions run high as the initial shock of the unknown as to what it could be, grabs a hold of the viewer. But, if one actually takes the time to open the picture and zoom in, one would be able to clearly see that the dark 'figure' actually is the parts of the trees that aren't being exposed to sunlight (essentially shadows).

It connects to this course through the application of both proof by verbosity and skepticism. Although they are providing evidence through eyewitness accounts, documented information, and recordings, skepticism would apply through the logic that the events that are claimed simply wouldn't be able to occur, due to the simple fact that the earth has gravity. One cannot defy gravity unless on a plane that hits an air pocket and suddenly drops. If this happens, a person will experience a second or two of zero gravity, and certainly not in the capacity that this article depicts. Also, it claims that the family isn't motivated to tell the story in order to make money. However, the source that is publishing the story may be motivated by an increase of sales, thereby generating profit from the story itself.

This picture is claimed to have been taken by the police, which shows a demonic ghost that is occupying a home in Indiana. Its paranormal attributes seem to apply to this course; however, red flags can definitely be applied. Mystical energy is something that is used by spiritualists, but in order for energy to be present, something has to create it and it has to be measurable. If one looks closely at the picture, it clearly looks like a prop has been set up on the enclosed porch which is providing fake evidence.

The Exorcism of Emily Rose - Anneliese Michel's story

This documentary video is about Anneliese Michel. She is a young girl who allegedly had over 6 demons posses her. The film, "The Exorcism of Emily Rose" was based on Anneliese Michel, but was obviously altered to grab the viewers attention. Although there are many websites available with recordings of this girl during her possession, as well as what the priests had documented, Anneliese's mother, father, and the priests that were involved in her exorcism were found guilty of negligent homicide. The end result of this atrocity was a small victory in that her parents and priest(s) were sentenced to six months in jail that was reduced to three years after a successful board review allowed probation, plus a fine.
After her death on July 1, 1976, the corner had determined that Anneliese had died from emaciation, malnutrition and starvation, and not from the 6 demons who had possessed her. Several reports also state that she had suffered temporal lobe epilepsy, however, there are conflicting documents proving this.
The red flag in Anneliese's case would be proof by verbosity. Although there are many red flags that can associated, due to the situation of atheism on the rise in Eurpoe at the time of this event, turning to the church was the only cure for this devout Catholic family. They believed that following the healing powers of the priests, this would save their daughter from the evil presence(s) that had entered her body.

The Exorcist - Roland Doe

Although the video posted below is the trailer for this famous movie, The Exorcist is actually based on a true story of a young boy named Roland Doe (Doe being a name that was given to hide his identity). Roland's story ends and starts in 1949.

The story's true form (for what can be taken as the truth), a young boy had just lost his aunt, who was a spiritualist, and wanted to get in touch with her, so he used her Ouija board and when he thought he found her, according to the documents, Roland wasn't speaking to his aunt from the other side, but rather a demon who ended up possessing the 14 year old boy.
After further investigations were conducted, it turns out that Roland Doe actually suffered from Tourette's Syndrome and schizophrenia.
This fact provides for many red flags, however, since this happened in the 40's when mental illness was not well known to many people; Mystical Energy would be the most logical red flag in this situation since the boys family believed that the healing power of faith and God's messengers, a.k.a. Priests, would cure him from his illness.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2449423/Devil-Roland-Doe-The-Exorcist-based-real-life-Missouri-possession.html

This is an interview with Ed and Lorriane Warren regarding the Brookfield Murder Case of which, a movie called "The Demon Murder Case" was created; and, a book was written called "The Devil in Connecticut".
In the movie, one of the boys that was involved had stated that this was a hoax and that the Warrens had used his friend's mental disability to have the actual killer released from prision. He also claims that the Warrens had convinced them that this would make their family into millionaires due to the publicity. After reading into the Warrens history, a lot of their cases have been claimed to be a hoax; and, after researching people who were involved in their cases, a lot of them have claimed to be suffering (or had been) from some type of mental illness.

Ed and Lorriane Warren are famous for exercising demons. Due to their popularity, and lack of knowledge of mental illness, people would turn to them if they knew someone that were not acting "normal." Appeal to authority would be a perfect red flag to sum up the activities that were performed by the Warrens. When someone had associated demonic possession of any sort, they would turn to Ed and Lorriane for their expertise. Although they were not doctors or psychologists, they were a familiar face that people would turn to if they needed an exorcism.
