He just fought a battle for king Duncan and king Duncan put all of his trust and loyalty in him so we believe that Macbeth and lady Macbeth would not have thought of such a deed until the witches convinced and planted a seed in his mind that gave him and lady Macbeth the idea kill king Duncan.
When Macbeth went to visit the witches for the second time, they worded their prophesies so Macbeth will feel over confident and invincible however he was tricked and later on found. 
" Macbeth, Macbeth, macbeth, be bloody, bold and resolute. None of women born shall harm Macbeth.”
Because of witches prophesies he was confused afraid and regretful.

She is very ambitious and greedy for the throne and she will do anything to get it, even pushing her husband to kill the king. Later on in the play, it shows that she is guilty of turning her loyal husband into a murderer and then she eventually kills her self of grief, showing us that she was the reason for his downfall. Macbeth never though of killing the king, lady Macbeth planted the seed in his head for that. The witches said he would become king, but not when or how he would be king. “My hands are of your colour, but I shame to wear a heart so white. This is saying that she has committed murders aswell as Macbeth but she cannot stand that he keeps on worrying about it because she knew it was her fault.  After Macbeth kills King Duncan, he becomes very ruthless and starts to plot murders to protect his place  on the throne. Lady Macbeth very overpowering because she goes on and on about wanting to be queen. When Lady Macbeth starts sleep walking he has no choice to go to the withches because Lady Macbeth was helpless so she couldn’t do anything.
