Talking about one's "self" in chapter 10 (JCB) talked about how we form ourselves and how everyone is different. I can relate to the things said in this chapter because when I was younger I used to wear whatever my friends would. I would follow trends that the people around me did. I did this in order to fit in or it was just what I saw around me at the time.

You are influenced subconsciously by the people around you to do certain things, dress a type of way, or talk a type of way.

I think the topic of consumers representing ones self is very interesting. You see people and the belongings they have and how everyone could have the same thing such as: shoes, phone, shirt, pants, etc. but they are all different from each other. Looking at my stuff compared to the belongings my roommates have shows our sense of self and how we differ from each other.

I am surprised by the wealth distribution from the youtube video "Wealth Inequality In America" because the amount of wealth and money that the top 20% has is insane and overkill. This has always been a problem in the world in general. The rich can be very greedy with what they have and don't tend to care or help those in need. This is probably how they stay so rich by being selfish with their money. It makes me feel bad because if I had money like that then I would be trying to help those in need all the time. Seeing the numbers and charts in the video really put everything into perspective physically to see how bad the wealth inequality in America really is.

My social class has affected my physical wellbeing. Growing up, I am very grateful that I got proper nutrition and access to good healthcare and other things affecting my physical wellbeing. I have also got great education all my life. I was fortunate enough for my parents to help me out with school and my university. Many people do not get the same opportunities as me and going to college and I think that is something that has affected my life greatly. I think with opportunities with my social class effected my choices for the better because with more opportunities like school I try my hardest on doing good in my classes in order to make the best of what I have. Making choices like saying no hanging out with friends so I can finish my homework or study for exams. My social class has also made me word harder to make more money in my life. It made me realize that for whatever you do you have to try your hardest and not give up on hard work.

Race and Ethnicity

My perception of race vs. ethnicity is that race is what you would identify as and a more broad version of ethnicity. For example my race would be Asian and my ethnicity would be Filipino. I made that decision just by what I was told by my parents. I think you can typically see what race people are just by their physical appearance. You can look asian or hispanic but there is specific type or culture of asian or hispanic that you are. Race is socially constructed because society has different perceptions of different race. Sometimes different races can be thought of or perceived in a specific way or thought of to act a certain way. I do not think this to be true all because the race someone is does not determine how someone acts. Society is is becoming negative and can group people falsely.

Beauty

Beauty to you could mean something completely different than beauty to someone else. In the textbook we learned how beauty is socially constructed. Most people are judging themselves on what they look like. We see people in magazines or online and compare ourselves to them. A quote that has always stuck with me was "Someone else's beauty doesn't take away from your own". This was from an influencer named Anna Paul. And she is basically saying that just because you think someone else is beautiful and you don't look like them doesn't mean you are any less beautiful. Someone else's beauty doesn't take away from your own. Society can be very harmful. and judgy or people's personal appearance and it can be damaging to one's self esteem. Conducting my own research on "counting beauty" I looked up the vogue fashion website. I only saw one man and the rest women on the cite. As for the racial depiction I only saw two mixed lightskin black women and the rest white women. This data is just taken from the cover pages by scrolling up and down. This is a very toxic standard to "beauty". Vogue is very well-known so to see the majority of people shown to be white and 99% women is unfortunate.

I have thought about my wedding ever since I was little. At this point I have most details planned in my head. It is a big moment for everyone's life and a lot of people think if it since they were young. The concept of a "white wedding" is the traditional wedding. I think a lot of parts that would be a white wedding is incorporated into my wedding ideas. I want the traditional big white wedding dress. This is apart of the "white wedding" dream but I also have plans that are different. A traditional white wedding is normally in a church and although I am religious I am thinking of having my wedding outside with a beautiful scenery. I also am filipino so I will have big wedding with some traditions. I think that the concept of a white wedding with unique changes is good.

The topic was to write something down when I saw someone doing something weird or strange. An example of deviance is when I was working my retail job and I saw a young teen and her friends acting weird or strange and I was suspicious that she was stealing. When she walked out of the store the bag set off our alarm censors and we found a stolen perfume in her bag. There are normally young girls that come into the store and steal. Her behaviors could be rational but she was pacing around the store and kept looking around for employees.
