One of the thing I think we need to focus on is to explicitly teach academic vocabulary. This come under empowering students and I think we all had comments about this when Mr. Jim advised that we are allowed to use the dictionary.

Time is the most precious thing that is often taken for granted. Students' intentional exposure to the curriculum gets lost due to lack of focus and proper planning. I think it would be a great practice to build your class agenda with MAP practices in mind throughout the year rather than only thinking about it when MAP testing is near.

Optimizing instructional time could be most impactful, considering the packed curriculum. So, we need to find ways to integrate support strategies into the set curriculum.

Small group lessons that target specific topics needed based on map results
Try scaffolding to break down complex concepts into smaller more manageable ones
Using visual aids might help certain students grasp the more difficult concepts
Peer support as most likely hearing from a fellow student tends to be more welcome as well that the peer might explain in a way more understood

I would say:

1. jigsaw, it is fun, engaging and competitive. It could be used to introduce vocabulary for example, students match a Math term with a visual representing the term.

Think- pair- share as it could be used at any part of the lesson to assess knowledge and understanding and it is less stressful.
