This is why I used a music box tone on my instrument, this is commonly used in shanty songs that usually play at the sea side.

The use of the simple staccato playing, allows simple legato vocals to be sang over. Shanty songs are not too intense and are very simple, so I wanted to keep the song more like a poem, rather than a full song. This allows quicker remembrance and simpler meaning.

I can imagine this piece being involved in a small indie cult classic, when the person's life is all going wrong.

So perhaps it would be used as an interlude.

Coffee Coughs uses an organ in order to fulfil its melody, as the vocal on top of it is very heavy and melodic, it is a must that the organ be involved as it is an instrument that can stand alone in this piece. The is a ranty song with a repeating chorus, and 3 verses in between, it switches up a lot, which adds diversity to the piece.

So I knew I wanted to mess with an eery, quite creepy synth to start with.

With the chords I came up with I wanted to achieve a spin on a love song but make it twisted. Talk about the dark side of love instead of the petty heart break side. To do this as a vocalist I knew I had to use very breathy and empty tones to try and recreate that wispy, dark feel. Whilst playing the piece mezzoforte in order for the contrast to ensure the creepiness of the piece.

I felt as though I had to cover the genre pop, due to fact that it is the biggest seller of music in todays society. 

With this in mind I knew I had to create a catchy pop song, So i started with really simple chords, played lightly and gently, then I started to work closely with the lyrics. 

With the lyrics I wanted to tell a love story, from the perspective of someone experiencing love for the first time. This I feel I did well as it is repative and catchy.

To ensure this pop song is iconic, I chose to add a lot of hooks, in the lyrics and melody, thus making it easier to remember!

It focuses on the hardships of fall outs and ties breaking. This would be perfect for a blues album, as it is open to many layers. For example, due to its simple chord structure, brass could easily be added and a bass could lead the rhythm of the whole piece. 

The use of a strong and forte piano sound, gives the song a unique blues style. The reason I did this was because blues is saw raw and honest that if I tried to hard on the creation of a piano style, it may kill off the piece.

By singing quite reserved in the verses, I then use my stomach to push through a powerful chorus, in order to show the listener when the change in the song is.
