The reason is that I truly understand how protective she feels towards him. I have a blind sister and whilst we were growing up I felt that I had to stand up for her all the time which she did not always want me to do :) 
Growing up with someone who is 'different' is hard on other children in the family too. The most interesting thing was that how the story is told through many different people's eyes. It was intrigueing to see the same situations from different perspectives and get to see their different thoughts

I have a brother who has autism and that can be a struggle at the best of times, but having a brother that has a disfigure in his face must be even worse. It must be a very heart crumbling thing to have to hide your own brother away from others. With autism you get to know the kid but with a deformity it can be very hard to understand the life of the kid and how he acts towards others because most people will just look away or hide from the kid.
