By teaching digital citizenship students will have a better understanding of what is safe while surfing the web, whether it be for a research project or even for personal usage. Some websites can be unsafe and could contain inappropriate graphics. Students also need to know how to ask permission to use other people's work, but they also need to be able to cite the source. Many papers that a student may write will require to have sources that a student has found. If a student lacks citing a source and does not ask permission, then it would be considered plagiarism which is against the law. There are so many things that students need to know before using the web. Cyberbullying is another topic that students should be aware of. It is important to inform students that everyone should be kind to others and not say anything they may regret later. Once you send a message it can be seen by other people. Students should also be aware of the topic if someone they do not know contacts them over the internet, then they should inform an adult and not reply.
