Burmese Culture is heavily influenced by religion, specifically Buddhism. Myanmar has greatly influenced it's neighboring countries in terms of religion. Monks are highly respected and many men temporarily become monks at some point in their lives.

Festivals and Tradition

Thingyan is a water festival celebrated in April where people splash water on each other to wash away last year's bad luck.

Tazaungdaing Festival, also known as the festival of lights. This practice is believed to have started as a way to light the path for Buddha when he ascended from the heavens.

Food and Cuisine

In Burmese culture, food and cuisine play a big role. Showed in the picture, the tea leaf salad is a popular dish eaten all around Myanmar. It is a unique dish made of fermented leaves, garlic, peanuts, sesame seeds, tomatoes and dried shrimp.

I watched her, a star amidst a sea of ordinary people,

A light once so bright, fading from my view.

Her laughter was the warmth of my mornings,

now only silence fills in the place she sat.

The future we dreamed of feels distant, a memory slipping away.

She's close, but out of reach,

Just the way things go.

I loved her deeply, but now I see,

letting go is the key to being free.

Though pain stays, I'll heal,

and learn to live without her, one step at a time.

You ask me what I mean
by saying I have lost my tongue.
I ask you, what would you do
if you had two tongues in your mouth,
and lost the first one, the mother tongue,
and could not really know the other,
the foreign tongue.
You could not use them both together
even if you thought that way.
And if you lived in a place you had to
speak a foreign tongue,
your mother tongue would rot,
rot and die in your mouth
until you had to spit it out.
I thought I spit it out
but overnight while I dream,
