For years, AI has been built up in high standard development in attempt to benefit our lives and make lots of living factors easier, such as jobs, security, and generating ideas for individuals in terms of creativity. However, in the years of AI development and its growing professionality, AI has also spread negative impacts of various crimes, laziness, misinformation, etc across the world with its high tech. But not only does AI have a negative benefit on society, AI has the potential of being a positive benefit for our society as well with its ability to grow everyday life into a more convenient and productive by being able to entertain individuals with technology (cellphones and their favorite apps), make convenience at stores much faster and productive, and even benefit those in need of technology for support due to their disabilities.

What is my stance?

My stance on AI is that I firmly believe that AI is indeed harmful to our society's future, and how it may be possible to displace humans and their intelligence and knowledge with a much more simpler "solution" of getting work, art, writings, etc done easily. When the development of AI improves overly professionally, I believe there is no telling how it can affect our future, and I believe developers of technology should take action on preventing a corrupt future from occurring. I take on the stance against AI because of my beliefs that humanity should remain maintained because of their intelligence and potential as humans, as they are capable of working hard, developing creativity, etc, and I don't think even technology can replace the beauty of humans and their hard work.

Evidence 1 - AI can use copyrighted work

AI developers have the proven potential to use copyrighted work from art, writing, and various works done by humans to train their AI programming and feed itself with such information to develop itself into higher professionality. Chat GPT, for example, is exposed to existing texts and messages, including images that AI claims to be “originally” generated from them. Specific AI platforms have also been sued by multiple authors, music publishers, and artists because of AI's power to generate images and various pieces of media originally owned by these people.

Evidence 2 - AI can lead to laziness for students

Students are able to take advantage of AI and its professionality by using text generative apps or image generative apps to easily and lazily do their work with no efforts being put in, possibly affecting their future careers if no true knowledge is being put within their work. Work production and decision making with students within schools has been reported in a study to be highly decreased, and work quality declined when using AI for their work. This harmful aspect of making schoolwork easier and advantageous for students hinders with their growth and improvement, and their motivation to push forward and become better in their skills of thinking and creativity, which is known as a very impactful value of human life in general.

The work of security within AI has been proven to be racially motivated by its facial recognition works, only accurately recognizing white people’s faces and falsely recognizing black people’s faces that later ended in falsely matching 28 members of the U.S Congress with people within mugshot photos, with 40% of the mistakes being people of color. AI security employment has also discriminately been used against black and brown communities, with federal and local police surveillance cameras in neighborhoods of color, and to monitor Black activists. Cities such as Boston and San Francisco have banned against police using AI's facial recognition for racially motivated reasons.

Crooks having access to AI gives them an open opportunity to act on crime easier. In 2020, 17 criminals used an AI “deep voice” filter to use their voices to impersonate an employee from a bank in the United Arab Emirates to then successfully transfer $35 million to themselves. In 2019, a similar crime was reported to have occurred with theives attempting to steal $240,000 using AI to impersonate a CEO of an energy firm in the UK.

We should take the issue of AI's overpowerment into consideration and concernment for the sake of humanity and the future of our world when it comes to hard work, creativity, jobs, future career careers, and etc. AI can lead to countless possibilities of harming the future by replacing various factors and values of human life, such as displacing humans from their jobs in which they work hard for and take value of effort and growth. As humans as a whole, the high intelligence of AI can also lead to the possibility of AI robots displacing the existence of humans with their perfection and flawless performance in partaking in activities that can be done by humans.
