I used to think teachers didn't care if we cheated, because its not their grade that will be affected. I also thought some teachers are lazy and jsut want to get through a grade. I learned that isn't true because if your teacher is good they will come up with their own assignments and what they want you to learn. Some teachers are lazy and allow their students to cheat but is it on the student or the teacher for making the assignment that easy. I see that teachers use technology for notes and stuff like that and thats fine but with worksheets I feel like its lazy unless its an online course. Lets get away from being lazy and use paper assignments where the student has to use resources like textbooks or partners if its group work. Lets create new assignments where they cover in the rubric but uses new ways to get the answer.

I used to think that using technology in the classroom would always be used a certian way. Expecially from a high school perspective. I really only thought of using technology for students to take notes or view some online things I may assign. But now I think that technology can be used in many different ways throughout the classroom. Along with including more collaboration among students and this collaboration can be specific to a class period or to every class within the subject.

I used to think that all lessons needed to be centered around just one type of technology, that adapting your lessons to the tech was more important than adapting the tech to your lesson. I now think that you can allow students to use technology they are comfortable with in order to enable learning. I think this section, which allows for students to use their phones for an example, really shows how you can implement a wide variety of technology in your classroom, no matter the lesson.

This statement is important to keep in mind because our students will be watching and listening how we talk about technology. If we are always complaining that online work and technology is such a bad place and talk negatively about it, they will not want to use or rebel and always go on it. Having a positive outlook towards online presents will helps students learn the good and useful items that come along with using technology in the classroom. I used to think that teachers thought so badly about technology and I think some did and still do, but technology is never going away. It made me feel that technology was not the best tool to use in the classroom when I am a teacher. Now after reading the book, I think that it is an important thing to use in the classroom, but more importantly having a positive outlook and proving my future students that technology is a great option for learning in the classroom.

Knowing what teachers gave extentions easily so I could put off their work and knew what work and how much needed to be done to play the game instead of learning. This personally hurt me more than I could recognise. I used to think all of this was fine and if a student was willing to put in the work that's all that mattered and they could get a good grade. Now I think this couldn't be further from the truth. The most important thing is their learning above all else.

As an athlete we hear tons about mindset and determination so being able to apply that to my teaching style would make it more comfortable for me. Especially the piece at the top of the page, "Teachers are no longer the gatekeepers of content." This is such a good quote because it shouldn't be the teachers goal to make the students fail or make content so complex that the students don't understand.

What I think now is that we shouldn't pretend that fear and failure are not regular things that happen to anyone. Instead I think that we should push students to go outside their comfort zone at times, even if it may mean that they won't succeed right away.

I used to think that the only choice we had as teachers was to create one-size-fits-all assignments. But now I've seen the little ways that we can tweak things in order to give them voice and choice and how much that can impact them.

I used to think that if you were going to have social media as a professional that you should have multiple accounts, but now I understand that how you portray yourself everyone finds the account you may be keeping private. Showing that you have a life outside of teaching is important to have yourself, but also knowing that everyone can see it in someway is something to keep in mind.

I used to think that being a teacher would be easy and that all of the curriculum and information would then be given to you. But now I think that when you become a teacher they are going to be giving you and outline of the information that needs to be taught but you get all free range to do whatever your heart desires to get through the curriculum by the certain point in time. I also believe that going week by week on the information is more important than pushing day by day information.

I used to think that group work was a waste of time, because some students would not do their part and it would fall on the rest of the students in group to finish. However, now I know that collaborative learning is essential. This practice will not only help students as they continue their education, but will also benefit them in their future careers. No matter what job you have you are going to be working with other people, and when you participate in the collaborative projects in school, it can give you the knowledge and confidence to work with people in the future.

I used to think that certain technologies would be difficult to use in an educational setting. I thought that some schools were rushing far too quickly into the upcoming trends of AI, All online assignments, and so on. Now I see that these things can be used to our advantage when used correctly by combining our already proven educational methods. Of course an online document is easier to submit, but it's also a lot easier to cheat on. However, when anti cheating devices can be implemented, it greatly reduces the chance students will cheat. There are innumerous positives to technology in the classroom, and they will only continue to grow.

I used to think that reflection may not be something that a teacher does extremely often (as you have to be confident in the material you present as a teacher). After reading these pages, I realized that there is always a place for reflection, even on the daily. It's important to provide the best learning experience for your students, and it's okay to fail. Failure allows for growth to occur, and if you're willing to as an educator, you can always learn and become better.

I used to think that only experts should share their ideas. But now, I see that everyone can share something valuable. This book helped me understand that sharing doesn't mean you have to be an expert. It's about being open, learning together, and improving together as a community. Sharing our experiences and learning from each other is more important than following advice from supposed experts.
