My name is Ivan Fuentes. At the moment, I am teaching English as a second language to 7th, 10th, and 11th-grade students. I teach at Colegio Andes de Mazatlán in Sinaloa, Mexico. The school where I work is new to the IB program, and I am very excited to be part of this initiative.

One of my pressing questions about the Language A: Language and Literature course is whether there are specific tips or strategies to develop the class in the best possible way to generate student interest. Additionally, what would you suggest to make the learning process both meaningful and engaging?

I believe that the best way to develop positive online professional relationships is to consistently review my peers' work. This allows me to gain new ideas and knowledge while also being receptive to peer feedback.

The three things I want to achieve are:

Gaining more knowledge about the subject.
Immersing myself in the IB teaching and learning process.
Developing professional and pedagogical skills that will help my students learn more effectively.

After completing the first module of this course, it can be concluded that the learner portfolio has a major impact, as it is an essential tool for organizing course notes, resources, and other academic materials.

In comparison to other curricula, the IB is similar in that everything must be well-organized and structured. Like any other curriculum, the IB provides a syllabus. However, it should be highlighted that the way information is presented in the IB is highly professional and helps teachers immerse themselves in the subject. The IB also provides a subject guide and preparation courses that help teachers become familiar with the content and IB expectations for delivering lessons.

Close language analysis means carefully examining the specific words, phrases, and structures in a text to understand how they create meaning, tone, and effect. It involves looking at things like word choice, figurative language, sentence structure, and rhetorical devices to see how they shape the reader’s interpretation.

To teach close language analysis, I would: Model the Process, Use Guided Questions, Highlight and Annotate, Compare Different Texts, Practice with Short Extracts, Encourage Creative Imitation

I could use assessment components, the learner portfolio, and other classroom tools to support the IB mission by promoting critical thinking and reflection. Formative assessments could help students take ownership of their learning and grow as independent thinkers, while the learner portfolio could encourage self awareness, voice, and meaningful connections to real-world issues. By focusing on the whole learner and not just exam performance, I could help develop compassionate, principled, and internationally minded individuals who are prepared to contribute positively to a global community.
