Group 1,3 answer the following A student writes, “A bird that is diving for prey has a speed of −10m/s.” What is wrong with the student's statement? What has the student actually described? Explain. What is the speed of the bird Group 2 and 4 answer the following:Acceleration is the change in velocity over time. Given this information, is acceleration a vector or a scalar quantity? Explain Group 5,6 and 7 answer: A weather forecast states that the temperature is predicted to be −5ºC the following day. Is this temperature a vector or a scalar quantity? Explain.

Acceleration is a vector. Acceleration can exist as both a negative and positive quantity and corresponds with velocity which is also a vector. As the velocity of an object increases, the acceleration increases as well, represented by a positive value. When the velocity decreases, the acceleration diminishes, being viewed as a negative amount. The signs of acceleration (positive and negative) indicate an increased or decreased quantity of velocity over time, making acceleration a vector instead of a scalar.
