I suggested my Head Master first and then my colleagues the possibility to go for cloud services. I took the decision and made all possible. Only when my Headmaster understood the importance to have a sharing cloud service, we decided to adopt it for communication and repository. Google Apps for Education was our choiceI use Cloud service with my students, too. We use Gmail and Hangouts to communicate and Drive as repository of lessons and documents we create our lessons. I think it is a wonderful means to share inside and outside school.

I use Google drive when I need to write/produce a '4-hand-written' 'document.

In our case it is a decision of each teacher who uses the Software as a Service modality, but provided by External Servers like Google, Dropbox, etc..
A few years ago, the Educational department of our Region provided an e-learning platform called e-ducativa for Schools, but it was a complete failure because it wasn't properly maintained, and finally last year was closed. There were lots of problems to export all materials that the most enthusiastic teachers had uploaded there....
In this experience, the need of support and maintenance wasn't considered, and finally the company who managed the platform closed, and we lost a lot of time and work. So now teachers prefer using consolidated platforms like Google, Edmodo or Dropbox, but the problem of that is the lack of coherence because each teacher uses and promotes the tools he/she knows better, and sometimes you feel than all of us are starting from zero instead of taking profit of synergies

Cloud computing is now to the point of being a very stable technology that we can rely on.

No more file cabinets – Cloud computing systems are regularly backed-up, so the chances of losing content are reduced significantly.

Increased engagement and productivity .

Potential cost savings – Moving to the cloud usually means moving away from a CAPEX model (physical assets that depreciate) to an OPEX model (pay per use). In Greece except from the popular worldwide cloud services (GAFE, Office365, Dropbox etc) the ministry of Education develops and provides a number of cloud based tools for teachers through the Greek School Network, which is another good reason to choose cloud.
The biggest problem in Greece is the infrastructure (aged pcs and slow internet connections).

As i said in my school we use the learning environment of google as a cloud service to interact with students. I find it very practical because it offers many opportunities to interaction and all the apps can be free of charge and accessed anytime by students. I think school can have many benefits from the use of cloud computing in education if the methodology is an innovative one . I have experienced the huge benefits of creating and sharing knowledge via cloud computing systems for example thanks to the innovative approach of eTwinning.

I'm in a school that is using VMware as a key resource. we use a server to host user accounts and we have complemented this with the use of GAFE.
We are looking to use our local area as a test case for a large scale Virtual dektop Infrastructure where a server (be it cloud based on or on site) will host accounts for all students and teachers in the area.
By using this system, schools no longer need to replace old PC's thus saving schools huge sums of money. All software is purchased with a group license and there are more savings there. We just need the state's department of Education to understand and implement the system to create a future-proof, financially viable system to benefit teaching and learning.

I don't think the decision of going into cloud services or not, has to be made by a singular person.
First of all, because this is an aspect that affects to a lot of people, so a lot of instances have things to say: politicians, administrators, headmasters, counserlors, teachers, students, families,...
And second, because all the changes that have really impact in the functioning of a complex environment (like a school), must come from the collective, must be downside up. So decisions from the top of the educational hierarchy can be wrong or useless.

Decision makers oftern delegate people who can't make complete plans, so at the very end every teacher does it him/herself. At the moment, my short term expectations are not so positive. Something will probably change when my colleagues will start improving their skills and thus they'll start asking for a better implementation of those services.

The staff must be prepared in advance to use the technology efficiently and fluently, the students must all have access to the cloud and the school must have the infrastructure for seamless cloud technology use (for example: a well-developed system of Internet access points). The move to cloud technology is a long-term process.
