What is Sex Education?

I chose to focus on sex education due to its pivotal role in the lives of young individuals whether taught at home or in the school. Along with determining if there is such thing as a right answer to this complex conversation. Knowledge is power and it is important that once you enter the age puberty occurs it is important to understand why your body is changing and what your body is capable of doing due to such changes.

This quote is found within this article which is pro sex education in public schools. This author believes there is a strong importance to educated the youth on their reproductive health. To prevent unplanned pregnancies. The author believes that when sex education is taught teens are more likely to be responsible and take the necessary precautions to prevent pregnancies.

Battles of Sex Education

Sex education is not a new battle in the United states. It has been a on going debate going as far a the 60's. This photo is the cover from the article where this quote was found. The photo displays frustrated parents through the debate of sex education in the American public school system.

There are 50 states total in the U.S. and only 24 states are required to educate their students on sex education. There are several important facts about young changing bodies students miss out on that they might not learn at home. "Should we mandate school to teach sex education in the classroom?" "Twenty-four states and the District of Columbia require schools to teach sex education, and in a review of state policies on the subject, center analysts found only 10 states, plus the District of Columbia, include instruction on healthy relationships, consent, or sexual assault."
