         <description><![CDATA[<div>A key theme in this chapter is the impact that a person's words can have on their lives and emotions. Rose says, "The power of [An-mei's] words was that strong" (Tan 185). Even though An-mei doesn't realize it, what she says truly affects Rose. At the end of the chapter, Rose says, "The power of my words was that strong" (Tan 196). This is when she told Ted she was keeping the house which made him scared and confused, showing that like her mother, words can have an effect on someone.</div>]]></description>
