There were several limitations to this work. 

As a qualitative study, the relatively small 

number of participants makes it difficult to know how representative they were of the 

larger cohort. There are plans to address this via a survey to a larger number of students in a later stage of this study, but this will, by necessity, be reported in a subsequent paper. 

Another limitation is that the study took place within one distance learning institution, and it is difficult to know the extent to which findings apply to other universities. Further work to investigate this more fully or in different contexts would be beneficial.
