  • One way to conserve soil is terracing. Terracing, helps reduce erosion, which is when water, wind, and ice move soil particles making it harder for plants to grow.
  • Another way farmers conserve soil is by using fertilizers when the soil becomes depleted.
  • Land reclamation is also a way to conserve soil. It replace the land that was damaged by erosion or mining.

  • Burning: The burning of solid waste is called incineration which also creates pollution (reduce volume of waste by 90%.)The heat produced by burning waste is used to produce electricity. 
  • Burying: Now most solid waste is buried in landfills that hold wastes safely. A sanitary landfill holds municipal solid waste (also pollutes groundwater) . Once full it is covered with a clay cap to prevent rainwater from dissolving harmful chemicals.
  • Recycling: Reduce, Reuse, and recycle.  Recycling is the process of reinstalling raw materials and reusing them to produce new products.
