Most people do not listen with the intent to understand; They listen with the intent to reply- can't find the author of this quote. 
2. The reason I used this quote is that most people don’t really listen to what a person is saying. An example of this is when you're having a debate, When you're making an argument the person is just going to cut you off while speaking. Just because they disagree with you so much and don’t want to listen. But if they actually listen and comprehend what you're saying, they might actually agree with what you're saying. I feel like if people were more interpersonal listeners, debates or disagreements would be solved quicker. This definitely goes for when you're having a sports debate with a friend. For example, I believe Kevin Durant is the best scorer in NBA history and my friend believes he isn't the best scorer ever.  So I made my argument that I was instantly cut off.  It was just like talking to a brick wall. Everything I try to say, he just tries to interrupt and says you don’t know what you're saying. He wasn’t listening because he doesn't want the idea of Kevin Durant being the best scorer ever in his head.
