The flow of the song provokes emotions of either sadness or happiness. These emotions are determined by where the ups and downs of the songs are placed. If the up of the song is prevalent over the downs, it usually evokes a happy emotion and vise versa. Soon after hearing a song, the listener will develop an emotional connection to it. Sometimes the rhythm and melody can blend together and one instrument comes in a replaces that emotion with another. I believe that the emotional connection is not left up to the artist to determine.
