In the first text about Demosthenes, his determination and perseverance helped him because the results were great, he was the greatest orator of Athens. In the other story, Icrarus and his father Deadalus tried to fly out of the island, Icarus flew too high and died.

Determination can be both an advantage and a disadvantage. In the first text, "Demosthenes", it helped the main character reach his goal. Since he badly wanted to become a public speaker, he was persistent in his ways to do this. However, the second text, "Icarus and Daedalus", it was a weakness for Icarus since it lead to his death. He was so determined to escape that he forgot to be aware of his surroundings

The determination of the two main characters, Demosthenes and Icarus helped and destroyed them throughout the story. Determination helped both of the main characters. First, Demosthenes used his determination to become one of the top 10 lawyers in Rome. This was all due to his determination. Icarus also got killed because of his determination flying way too high in the sky. The wax melted off of his fathers contraption and he fell into the ocean where he drowned to death. This was all due to the characters determination.

In the two myths determination helped and hurt with of the main characters. For example, in the first text "Demosthenes" it helps the main character. He was determined to become a great public speaker and a lawyer. In the second text, "Icarus and Daedalus" it hurts the main character. The main character is determined to leave the island. He is able to do that, but he then dies during his journey. It is possible for our greatest strengths to be our greatest weakness.

Without being determined, he wouldn't have done such an amazing job in life. For example, after the trial Demosthenes watched, he went home determined to become a lawyer and public speaker. In the other text, Daedalus' determination didn't help him. He was determined to leave the jail and the tower. He came up with the idea of making wings for him and Icarus. At the end, Icarus drowned because his wings broke.

For instance, it helped Demosthenes because he was determined to become a successful lawyer. On the other hand, in Icarus's case, it hurt him since he was so determined for freedom he got himself carried away and drowned. That goes to show our greatest strengths can also prove to be our greatest weaknesses.
