In this padlet, I will be exploring concepts presented in chapter 10 of Every Song Ever by Ben Ratliff. The concept presented is endless inventory. I will define and evaluate this musical concept. Also, I will explain why I agree with this concept. One of the musicians who exemplifies this concept that Ratliff identifies are musicians like, the Grateful Dead. Through my understanding, I hope to show you why their music is an example of this phenomenon. Unlike Ratliff, I am experiencing this concept. Through the music of Post Malone, I have fell victim to endless inventory and will show you why this has happened. Thank you for viewing

Endless Inventory occurs when you "fall in love" with music and in turn, start listening to that musician. However, the music you "fall in love" with is not a "one hit wonder" and the musician does not ride the wave of luck, "without a fixed outcome". Instead, the musician, "knows he's got a powerful thing and only gives you a little, leaving you hungry." (Ratliff, Ben. Every Song Ever: (p. 114). The hunger experienced like an empty void that can only be filled with that artist and you then collect an "endless inventory" of their works.

The Grateful Dead and Post Malon

One of the examples that Ratliff gives us is the Grateful Dead. The reason this is a good example is because of the consistency they give their audience over time but only a little at a time. Unlike one hit wonders who ride the luck wave these musicians know their good and spread out that goodness for many years. Post Malone also does this, however he does this to an even more extreme than even the artist Ratliff Identifies. Post Malone never releases a whole album at a time however he releases each song individually and then combines them into one album. Because of this he gives his audience (which is me) a small taste so we don't get sick of it in one week... @taylorswift13.
